1 man killed in two-vehicle crash early Monday on 1-55, police say
A man is dead after a two-vehicle crash early Monday morning on the Stevenson Expressway, according to Illinois State Police.
Police said that at about 2:06 a.m. a Honda HR-V rear-ended a semitrailer at southbound I-55 near Central Avenue. The driver of the Honda, a 31-year-old man from Summit, was pronounced dead on scene, police said.
Early information indicates speed was a contributing factor in the crash, police said.
Southbound traffic was being diverted off I-55 at Central Avenue while officers investigated the crash. Trooper Melissa Albert-Lopez said at 8:30 a.m. that all lanes were open.
