1 person dead, another critically wounded in shooting in Farmersville on Thanksgiving

A woman from Troy was killed and a Farmersville man critically wounded in a Thanksgiving Day shooting at a Farmersville residence.

Farmersville, about 25 miles south of Springfield, is in Montgomery County.

According to a Montgomery County Sheriff's Department release, Leslie J. Reeves, 45, of Troy, was pronounced dead at a house in the 100 block of Nobbie Street on Thursday afternoon.

Christopher Smith, 48, of Farmerville was critically injured and transported to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

The sheriff's office was originally contacted about making a wellness check on a resident.

A separate report was made regarding the possibility of a deceased person at the same address.

It wasn't immediately clear about the relationship between Reeves and Smith.

The release noted that "evidence at the scene" indicated that both Reeves and Smith were victims of a shooting.

A person of interest has been identified and the incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and Illinois State Police.

No motive for the shooting has been released by authorities.
