1 person dead after vehicle rolls over near Palm Desert

A 47-year-old Desert Hot Springs man died in a rollover crash north of Palm Desert on Thursday evening, the Riverside County Fire Department said.

The crash, which involved a single vehicle, occurred at around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Washington Street and Coyote Song Way. That is on the northwest edge of the Sun City Palm Desert residential community and east of the Coachella Valley National Wildlife Refuge.

The Riverside County coroner's office identified the victim as William Alexander Bonilla-Mendoza.

The vehicle's other occupant was taken to a hospital by ambulance with serious injuries, the fire department said in a tweet.

The California Highway Patrol said the vehicle was found on its side 50 feet from the roadway and there was a man laying on the side of the road when responders arrived.
