1 person killed, 5 others wounded in shooting at Boston-area house party
One person was fatally shot and five others wounded in a shooting at a Massachusetts house party early Sunday morning.
Cops in Lawrence swarmed a house about 3 a.m. following a report of shots fired.
Responding officers found six victims, all of whom were transported to a hospital in the city about 20 miles north of downtown Boston.
One victim was pronounced dead at Lawrence General Hospital. Two others were airlifted to Boston for additional treatment of serious injuries, according to Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker. He did not provide details on the conditions of the other victims.
Police have not publicly speculated on a motive for the shooting or identified any potential suspects. Additionally, the victims have not been publicly identified.
Tucker’s office said the shooting did not appear to be a random act of violence and there was no further danger to the community.
There have now been mass shootings at parties across the U.S. on three consecutive weekends. On April 15, four people were killed and 32 others wounded in a shooting at a 16th birthday party in Dadeville, Ala.
In the early-morning hours of April 23, nine teenagers were wounded in a shooting at a prom after-party in Jasper, Texas.
In both cases, cops have focused on multiple potential suspects. Five people have been arrested in connection with the Alabama shooting, while four teenagers were detained in the Texas case.
