LPD: Suspect injured in shooting after theft at central-Lubbock business Monday night
One person was seriously injured in a shooting that followed a theft at a local business Monday night, according to Lubbock police.
Officers were called to a shopping center near 50th Street and Avenue U just before 8:30 p.m. Monday for reports of shots fired. Police learned that several several suspects in an alleged theft were fleeing a business in the shopping center when someone fired at the suspects multiple times, LPD said.
Lubbock police said they later received a call for someone suffering a gunshot wound in the 500 block of 51st Street, which investigators believe is related to the earlier shots-fired call in the 5000 block of Avenue U. The person was taken to University Medical Center with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.
No arrests had been made in the case by midday Tuesday. The Lubbock Police Department's Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate.
