Man in serious condition after crash left him trapped under a truck in Copley, police say

A 40-year-old Amherst man was left in serious condition Thursday evening after a crash on Route 21 in Copley Township, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in a press release.

The crash was reported around 3:23 p.m. on Minor Road when a 2002 Ford F250 Super Duty that was broken down in the right side of the northbound lane was struck in the left rear corner and forced off of the road by a northbound 2021 Jeep Gladiator.

OSHP said the Jeep also struck the driver of the truck, who was standing to the left of the truck. He became trapped under the Jeep, which was being driven by a 33-year-old Wadsworth man.

The Amherst man was taken to Akron General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries and was undergoing surgery around 7:30 p.m., the OSHP said.

The driver of the Jeep sustained minor injuries and was not transported, but a 2-year-old girl in a car seat in the back of the Jeep was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital as a precautionary measure.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash, the OSHP said.

Copley Township police and fire personnel assisted on the scene, which was cleared a little after 5 p.m. The crash remains under investigation.
