1 woman dead, 1 woman injured in west Phoenix shooting near restaurant

Jeanneatte Smith Leibby, 64, was shot dead near 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road in Phoenix on Sunday morning, while another woman was injured.

The shooting occurred at about 1:30 a.m. near a restaurant. A vehicle drove by and fired at the restaurant, according to police. The vehicle left the area before the police arrived.

"Officers found two women suffering gunshot wounds," said Sgt. Melissa Soliz, a spokesperson for Phoenix Police. "They were both transported to the hospital with serious injuries."

Leibby died at the hospital, said Soliz.

The suspect or suspects remain outstanding, police said. Anyone with information can contact the Phoenix Police Department, or Silent Witness (480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish).
