Mount Pleasant UMC turns 150

CARROLLTON − Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church at 89 Canyon Road SW will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a weekend revival and heritage observance on Nov. 5-6.

The Rev. Ron Smith, president of the Francis Asbury Society in Wilmore, Kentucky, will be the guest evangelist at 7 p.m. Nov. 5. The service will be in the fellowship hall and will include music by the church choir, a quartet and a women’s ensemble.

The second service will be 9:45 a.m. Nov. 6. This celebration will acknowledge that in the 1800s, people of the community held a revival that resulted in many people coming to Christ and joining the church. It was decided to take up a "subscription" to build a new church building, which was dedicated in 1872 and named Mount Pleasant.

Also on Nov. 6, the heritage observance will include a video presentation, testimonies, a choir song and Rev. Smith as speaker. No Sunday School will be conducted. The heritage milestone will conclude with a catered meal with reservations requested by Nov. 2 at 330-627-2219.

Today, 150 years later, that structure still remains the cornerstone of the current church building and serves as the fellowship hall.

The Rev. Rick Dawson is senior pastor. To learn more, visit the church's Facebook page at facebook.com/MountPleasantCarrolltonOhio or call 330-627-2219. The church's website is mtpleasantunitedmethodistchurch.org.
