10 Bartlesville-area high school football players to watch during Friday's openers

Here are 10 area football players to watch in Friday’s zero week openers. Bartlesville, Wesleyan Christian and the Caney Valley (Kan.) Bullpups will open their campaigns on Sept. 2.

1 — TODD DRUMMOND, QB, Pawhuska

(Sr., 6-4, 190)

Matchup: Caney Valley at Pawhuska

COMMENT: Drummond passed for 50 touchdowns and only nine interceptions in leading the Huskies to an 11–3 record. He has to work with a retooled receiver corps.

——

2 — TRENT MUNINGER, QB, Dewey

(Sr., 6-0, 170)

Matchup: Dewey at Miami

COMMENT: This is totally Muninger’s offense to operate after trading snaps the previous two seasons. He’s a 4.5 runner in the 40 and excels both with his arm and feet. This game could be plenty rugged.

——

3 — MAVERICK LANPHEAR, QB/FS, Barnsdall

(Soph., 5-11, 165)

Matchup: Copan at Barnsdall

COMMENT: Lanphear has a year of starting experience on his resume. He helped the Panthers go 5-5 last season. He can fling it or wing it and also excels on ‘D’.

4 — ZAK WALLIS, QB/OLB, Caney Valley Trojans

(Sr., 5-4, 140)

Matchup: Caney Valley at Pawhuska

COMMENT: Wallis — who is an athletic dynamo in his compact size — is a four-year starter under center and a force on defense. He guided CVHS to a 6-4 mark last year. He has a retooled supporting cast of weapons.

——

5 — BRADEN GARRISON, DT, Dewey

(Jr., 6-0, 230)

Matchup: Dewey at Miami

COMMENT: Garrison brings a constant powerful running clock that energizes the Bulldogger defense.

——

6 — JOJO HENDREN, RB/MLB, Pawhuska

(Jr.)

Matchup: Caney Valley at Pawhuska

COMMENT: Hendren and other athletic Huskie talents will have an opportunity to display their full array of ability following the graduation last year of some amazing athletes.

7 — EASTON MALONG, RB/DE, Barnsdall

(Soph., 6-0, 200)

Matchup: Copan at Barnsdall

COMMENT: As a full-time starting freshman, Malone ran the ball like a steamrolling veteran and on defense proved to be a carrier of headaches for opposing offensive coordinators.

——

8 — KANE FOREMAN, QB/LB, Copan

(Fr.)

Matchup: Copan at Barnsdall

COMMENT: Foreman is part of a stellar group of athletic freshmen that, combined with Copan’s veterans, could help the program take some big steps forward this year.

——

9 — COOPER FOGLE, WR/DB/K, Caney Valley

(Jr.)

Matchup: Caney Valley at Pawhuska

COMMENT: Fogle already is established as a dynamo on defense and a middle-of-the-uprights kicker. He should have more of an opportunity to make plays offensively.

10 — TYREL RICHARDSON, WR/CB Pawhuska

(Jr.)

Matchup: Caney Valley at Pawhuska

COMMENT: Richardson returns as a lockdown cornerback and will be depended on to step up as one of the team’s key receivers.
