Here are the 10 best Halloween attractions in SC for some spooky fun, new ranking shows

Halloween is less than two weeks away, meaning the time left to explore your more spooky side is quickly dwindling.

Whether you favor family-friendly fun or prefer to be scared out of your socks, the Palmetto State plays host to Halloween events for everyone.

Here are the 10 best Halloween attractions to visit for Halloween in South Carolina this year, according to Discover South Carolina.

Fall Festival and Corn Maze at Denver Downs Farm

The Fall Festival and Corn Maze at Denver Downs Farm in Anderson lets guests engage in their favorite fall-themed activities at Denver Downs Farm. During the Fall Festival, your family will have the opportunity to interact with the animals, pick and paint a pumpkin, visit the sunflower field, explore this year’s Reba-inspired corn maze, join a campfire and roast marshmallows for s’mores, ride the mega slide, mine for gems, enjoy live entertainment on the weekends and so much more.

The festival is ongoing through Halloween and will continue until its final day on Nov. 12. Denver Downs is located at 1515 Denver Road, Anderson, SC 29625 and can be contacted at 864-556-3394. SCarowinds

SCarowinds in Fort Mill, which can be found on the northern South Carolina border, takes place at the popular amusement park, Carowinds, which transforms for several nights of terror each October lasting until Oct. 29. The premier Halloween event is featuring a new attraction this year called the Procession of Nightmares parade. The fear-factor event also highlights haunted mazes, scare zones, zombies, vampires, roller coasters and live shows.

Due to the nature of the event, it is recommended that attending guests be aged 13 years old or older.

Boone Hall Fright Nights

The Boone Hall Fright Nights in Mount Pleasant is the state’s largest haunted multi-attraction Halloween event, according to Discover South Carolina. The annual event features three spooky events: “Carnage,” “Freaks Unleashed” and “The Last Ride.” The events feature themes such as an un-ordinary hospital, uncaged circus nightmares, toxic wastelands, mine shafts and spirits.

Tickets are sold online in two separate packages. Tickets will be limited for each night. Once they are sold out, there will be no other tickets available for that night either online or at the event. The event occurs on Thursdays through Sundays.

The attractions are not recommended for guests under 12 years old or for those who do not like to be scared. However, if they choose to attend, children under 12 years old must be accompanied by a ticketed adult through the attractions. Children under 6 years old will not be admitted to the event for safety reasons, according to Boone Hall’s Fright Nights webpage.

Haunted Jail Tour

The Haunted Jail Tour in Charleston, by Bulldog Tours, takes attendees on a 45-minute, night-time tour of The Old City Jail in historic Charleston. This locale is where some of the Lowcountry’s most noteworthy criminals were housed from 1802 to 1939, such as 19th-Century pirates and Civil War prisoners.

The haunting site was featured on Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures and The Travel Channel.

Annie’s Bed and Breakfast

Are visiting statewide haunts next on your agenda? Annie’s Bed and Breakfast in Montmorenci, an unincorporated community in Aiken, is next on the list of spooky attractions to visit. The three-story cotton plantation house was built in the 1830s and has an extensive history dating through to the Civil War. The Big Boo and Nighttime Wagon Rides at Stewart Farms

The fall celebration offers family-friendly activities including a pumpkin patch, corn maze, wagon rides, a nighttime haunted maze, farm animals, mums and more. Hall of Horrors

The Hall of Horrors in Cayce is a haunted house attraction found at 1153 Walter Price Road, Cayce, SC 29033. The attraction is open to thrill-seekers through Oct. 31 on select nights an tickets can be purchased online at https://www.hallofhorrors.org/prices.

“Terror chasers come back year after year for its thrills and chills, making it the longest-running scare show in the Midlands. Boo in the Zoo

Boo in the Zoo at the Greenville Zoo is back for its 37th year. This fun, Halloween activity gives guests the chance to trick-or-treat among the animals. For those looking for a family-friendly activity sans ghosts, scares or anything scary, this is the activity for you. This attraction isn’t a scary one, so bring the whole family, dress up in your best costume and bring your own trick-or-treating bags for a night out at the zoo.

The event will feature specialty areas including Dragon Alley, Alice’s Fun House, Ghost Town, and an extinct species graveyard to explore.

Ghost Hound of Goshen Hill

The Ghost Hound of Goshen Hill in Newberry is a canine apparition that has been known to haunt a 5-mile stretch of Old Buncombe Road from the Ebenezer Methodist Church cemetery to Goshen Hill Plantation and chases those who dare venture into its turf, according to Discover South Carolina.

Boo at the Zoo

Boo at the Zoo in Columbia at the Riverbanks Zoo is a great opportunity for families to enjoy a haunted carousel ride, a trick-or-treat through the zoo, see a magic show, roast marshmallows, ride on a spooky railroad and more. Attendees should plan ahead and bring their own trick-or-treat bags and children 12 years old and under are encouraged to wear costumes.
