Depending on where you live, March can be one of those odd in-between months. It's too cold to be spring yet (even though it's technically March 20), but it's still too warm to fully embrace winter. Even though March brings along slushy weather that still keeps us inside, it also brings savings on certain products that are worth looking into.

As retailers clear out their winter inventory and make way for spring and summer items, now's the time to save on cold-weather gear and items for general outdoor enjoyment. Below, you'll find the 10 best things you should buy in March.

1. Winter coats

As the weather warms up, the prices for winter coats dip down as retailers try to get rid of last season's inventory, making March a great time to buy some warm weather outfits for next year. While we have a few favorite coats, the sale selection is a narrower, though you can find deals on winter coats at retailers like L.L.Bean and REI this month. There's already discounts on two popular winter jackets: the Patagonia Nano Puff and the J.Crew Quilted Barn Jacket—just note sizes and colors are limited.

2. Ski and snowboarding gear

Like winter coats, the end of ski and snowboarding season means you find discounts on boards, poles, helmets, and the like during March. Sites like Backcountry, Skis.com, and Moosejaw are already offering winter clearance sales. Plus, there's still time to get one more run with your new gear while the weather is still cold.

3. Air conditioners

On the flip side, March is also the time to think about warm weather items like a new air conditioner. Retailers are dropping prices on unsold inventory from last year to make room for new models. The GE Profile Series PHC08LY is the best window air conditioning unit we've ever tested, you can find discounts on other models at places like The Home Depot.

Get the GE Profile Series PHC08LY at Amazon for $329.95

4. Barbecue grills

Like air conditioners, barbecue grills are another summer item you'll find discounted during this month. Not only are retailers clearing out old inventory, but as people will be preparing for another backyard summer, you're going to want to nab a grill before they're in short supply. The Weber Spirit II E-310 is the best gas grill we've ever tested and the Napoleon NK22K-LEG-2 is our favorite charcoal grill. Though neither are currently discounted, you'll want to keep an eye out for discounts at retailers like The Home Depot and Amazon during March.

5. Luggage

Save on your future travels.

Though many of us will not be traveling any time soon, you can typically save on luggage during March, so it might be a good time to upgrade your old suitcase. While the Large Away Suitcase is our favorite hard-sided suitcase, it's currently not on sale. But you can find some great deals on top-brands like Samsonite and TravelPro at Macy's and JCPenney.

6. Tax software

Unfortunately, it's that time again where you need to start think about filing your taxes (the deadline is April 15, FYI). But the sooner you do them, the sooner you get your refund—and right now, you can save on the software you need to do them. Intuit TurboTax Deluxe was named our favorite online tax software because it makes it easy to file with super-specific guidelines and additional help from tax professionals. If you get it now, you can save $10 on your purchase, too.

7. Exercise equipment

It finally time to build your home gym.
It finally time to build your home gym.

If you haven't already created your home gym during quarantine, March may be time to do so. As the weather warms up and folks are (finally) able to work out outside, it also means they're less likely to purchase workout equipment, subsequently leading to discounts on these products. You're likely to find dumbbells, exercise bikes, and treadmills on sale this month—as long as they're still in stock.

8. Jewelry

Add some new bling to your wardrobe.

March is the in-between time for jewelry gifting holidays like Valentine's Day and Mother's Day, so you're likely to see some big savings across bigger retailers. That means you can feel comfortable shop for some new bling knowing it's not overpriced. Here at Reviewed, we're fans of Madewell and Mejuri for simple statement pieces.

9. Lawn care items

Keep up with your curb appeal.

As snow slowly melts away, it means we can finally see our lawns again—and how bad they look. That's why there has already been an uptick in searches for mulch, herbicide, and lawn aerators, so you may want to get on it before things start becoming hard to find. For good lawn care, we recommend using a weed preventer and investing in a good string trimmer like the Greenworks 21212, which is the best one we've ever tested, or a smart sprinkler to keep your lawn as lush as possible.

10. Patio and outdoor furniture

Upgrade the your outdoor space.

After months of cold weather, we're all looking forward to spending more time outdoors, which is why many people are already thinking of getting new patio furniture. If we're still stuck at home, we might as well hang out with a nice breeze. Items like outdoor umbrellas, pool filters, and porch swings are growing in search, according to Google Trends, and you can likely find discounts on last year's inventory for these products at retailers like Wayfair. Also while outdoor furniture didn't sell out completely last year, popular products did, so if you seem something you love, order it ASAP.
