Whether summer is actually underway yet can be debated. But patio season doesn't need to wait for a solstice.
Those who want to join in on the back-porch play without ditching the doggo can check out these dog-friendly patios in and near Columbus.

BrewDog Franklinton
Beers, burgers, barks. Those who love all three can take their dogs onto either the patio or the upper deck at this Franklinton favorite, located at 463 W. Town St. The patio holds five long tables and the upper deck has more than double that--and a bar. Guests on both levels can counter chilly evening breezes thanks to rock fireplaces.
Bada Bean Bada Booze
Here at 231 E. 1st Ave., everyone on the six-table patio gets treats. Dogs can expect “pup cups”--filled with whipped cream and a complimentary Growlers bone. Those looking for a buzz via caffeine can enjoy a signature espresso drink by day, and those looking for a buzz via booze can enjoy a draft beer by night. Those looking for both can opt for an espresso martini or Irish coffee.
Gemut Biergarten
This Old Towne East spot, at 734 Oak St., features German favorites like schnitzel and wurst, plus a beer suited to every palate. Those who prefer softer hops still have time to try the Helhest Leichtbeir, a springtime special. The dog-friendly outdoor seating on the restaurant’s north end holds 16 wooden tables.
Oddfellows Liquor Bar
Thought dogs loved this High Street staple before? Just wait. Coming soon is a giant outdoor wooden beer garden, which will neighbor a Mikey's Late Night Slice pizza truck. In the meantime, enjoy decorative wall art on a patio that can fit over 200 people.
Old Dog Alehouse and Brewery
Old Dog Alehouse & Brewery, at 13 W William St. in Delaware, offers one of the best patios in the city and is, of course, dog-friendly. Grab a spot on the restaurant and brewery's patio, which provides parasol-covered tables and chairs to enjoy beer, wine and cocktails, plus a wide range of eats, including entrees and shareables, while taking in the sights and sounds of Delaware.
Parsons North Brewing Co.
Good boys and girls even get their own events at this venue, which offers a diverse selection of beers on tap or for carryout and hosts food truckers daily. Located at 685 Parsons Ave., Parsons North hosts monthly “Pups on the Patio” events, weather-permitting. The backyard space can fit about 20 picnic-style tables.
Seventh Son Brewing Co.
Dog lovers can unite with grub connoisseurs and nature enthusiasts here, where more than a dozen wooden tables lie along N 4th Street. A nice selection of plants and bench seating line the Seventh Son patio, which features a rotating selection of daily food trucks.
Spires Social Brewing Co.
Polaris hotspot Spires Social Brewing Co. boasts an industrial taproom, full bar and dog-friendly patio overlooking a pond. Sip on over a dozen house-made craft beers and seltzers, cocktails or wine, or schedule a time to brew your own beer. The brewery also hosts live music.
Townhall
TownHall’s Columbus location, found at 792 N High St., boasts a non-GMO food menu and a patio that features decorative gardening and can fit roughly 70 people. Customers can appease their appetites guilt-free with food options like the “Keto Powerhouse” smoothie or indulge in cocktails like the “Dad Bod,” consisting of Maker’s Mark, Skrewball, cacao and vegan vanilla ice cream.
16-Bit Bar+Arcade
Take the furry friend on your trip down memory lane. For those who purchase drinks, whether it be cocktails, beers, wines or mocktails, retro games like Galaga and Ms. Pac-Man are complimentary at this arcade. Dogs are welcome both on the patio and inside at 16-Bit, which can be found at 254 S 4th St.
