The smell of greasepaint and the roar of the crowd will be in the air this weekend as Short North Stage begins an extended run of an off-Broadway musical and a national tour of a beloved Broadway classic comes to town.

A year-long spoken word project at several Columbus schools will culminate in "Schooled on Poetry" on Saturday, with Pulitzer Prize winner and former poet laureate Tracy K. Smith joining students and teachers as they read group pieces and individual poems.

Among the weekend's other highlights will be the Columbus Printed Arts Center's inaugural art book fair, bringing vendors and artists of various disciplines together on Saturday and Sunday.

Short North Stage to throw 'Wild Party'

If you like “Chicago,” you’ll love off-Broadway’s “The Wild Party,” beginning a three-weekend run Thursday on the Garden Theatre MainStage at Short North Stage, 1187 N. High St. Featuring a score by Andrew Lippa, the Prohibition-era musical is based on Joseph Moncure March’s 1928 narrative poem about a night of drinking and debauchery that ends in a shooting. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays through May 28. An opening night reception will be held after the performance on Friday and a show with a sign language interpreter is set for May 21. Single tickets range from $37-$55, student rush tickets are $20. Tomorrow's just a day away for 'Annie'

America’s favorite plucky, red-haired orphan is heading to the stage of the Ohio Theatre, 39 E. State St., where a nationally touring production of the Tony-winning musical “Annie” will be presented this weekend. Since its world premiere in 1976, the family-friendly tale has reminded generations of theatergoers that sunshine is always right around the corner, as Annie sings in her optimistic anthem, “Tomorrow.” Performances will be at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 2 p.m. Saturday; 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Dallas Green brings 'colour' to the city

Kemba Live, 405 Neil Ave., will welcome Dallas Green, the musician behind City and Colour, on Friday. Doors open at 7 p.m. In addition to his work with the post-hardcore band Alexisonfire and a 2014 collaboration with P!nk under the moniker Rose Ave., Green has put out seven studio albums as City and Colour including "The Love Still Held Me Near," released in March. (Interesting trivia: He adopted his stage name because his given name is a city and a color.) Tickets start at $40.50 online and $46 at the door. Dancers to tap into two-night program

"Playing Favorites," featuring some of Columbus' finest tap dancers and jazz musicians, will take place at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Tap Shop, 2326 Summit St. The program includes the debut of works by Lauren Squires and Janet Schroeder, along with dancers Adrienne Bricker, Jeffrey Clark, Kim Denizard, Andrea Scherler, Arianna Smith, and Brianna Smith. Music will be provided by Dean Hulett on bass, Paul Strawser on piano, and special guests on saxophone, Chris Hoyte (Friday) Eddie Bayard (Saturday). Note: The building entrance has stairs. 'Schooled on Poetry' project to be presented

Canzani Auditorium the Columbus College of Art and Design, 60 Cleveland Ave., will host “Schooled on Poetry” with Pulitzer-winning former National Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith and students and teachers from Centennial, Ft. Hayes, Grandview Heights and Linden-McKinley schools performing intra-school group pieces and individual poems. The event begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, capping a year-long spoken word poetry project led by poet-educator Peter Kahn in conjunction with the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio. Other guests include “Respect the Mic” anthology contributor, educator and poet Asia Calcagno and Columbus poet-author Hanif Abdurraqib. Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 college students. Fundraising festival full of family fun

The Delaware Vintage & Artisan Festival will fill Boardman Arts Park, 154 W. William St., Delaware, with music, shopping, critters (yes, critters!), and more from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. In addition to antiques, vintage goods, artisan crafts, a vintage car show, live bands, food trucks and other attractions, the festival will feature adoptable puppies from the Humane Society of Delaware County. New this year, For All Species Education will be on hand with Ohio wildlife creatures to see up close. Other activities will include a painting activity involving park director Roxanne Amidon's car! The festival is a fundraiser to help continue to bring programming and art to the park. Early-bird admission from 8-9 a.m. is $5 at the door; after 9 a.m., the cost is $3. Join the Ted Lewis Museum and the Circleville Men’s Barbershop Chorus in the Circleville High School auditorium, 380 Clark Drive, for "Moonlight Bay: A Rollicking Ragtime Romp" into the music performed at Circleville’s Grand Opera House from 1890-1913. Printed Arts Center to debut book fair

Columbus Printed Arts Center will hold its first art book fair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Pizzuti Collection of the Columbus Museum of Art, 632 Park St. Almost 50 vendors from 14 states, Italy and the Netherlands, will be set up throughout the building's three levels. Guest artists will be multidisciplinary artist and educator Sa'dia Rehman, experimental musician Confusions (Ben Turner) and writer-artist Stephanie Barber, who will film dialogues with fairgoers over the weekend and have screenings of her project "Dialog and Dialogues." A kickoff reception will take place at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Wexner Center for the Arts, 1871 N. High St., with interdisciplinary visual artist A.K. Vaughn Wiester's Famous Jazz Orchestra will host special guest vocalist Barbara Knight at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Clintonville Woman's Club, 3951 N. High St. Knight's illustrious career has included long runs with the Harry Hershey Orchestra and Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. She also is included in the "Jazz Singers, The Ultimate Guide," a compilation of the 521 most influential jazz vocalists of all time by jazz critic Scott Yanow. Indigo Girl Amy Ray to play solo gig

Doors open at 7 p.m. Tuesday at A&R Music Bar, 391 Neil Ave., for a concert by Amy Ray, one half of folk-rock's Indigo Girls, with her band and guest H.C. McEntire. Ray's musical origins date back to high school in the early '80s, where she and Emily Saliers formed the duo that would become Indigo Girls. Since then, the pair has recorded nearly 20 albums and won a Grammy in 1990. As a solo artist, Ray founded an independent record label, Daemon Records, and has released seven studio albums, including last year's "If it All Goes South," as well as three live albums.
