Zany nuns to bring sister act to Hilliard
The antics of five nuns attempting to manage a fundraiser to bury their dearly departed sisters — victims of an unfortunate culinary experience — are sure to raise laughter during a two-weekend run at the Hilliard Civic and Cultural Arts Center, 5425 Center St., Hilliard. Presented by the Hilliard Arts Council, "Nunsense" has the distinction of being the second-longest-running off-Broadway show in history with 3,672 performances. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday; 8 p.m. April 28-29; and 3 p.m. April 30. Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors 60 and older, and $12 for students through college age. Vaud-Villities to embark on musical journey
Celebrating its 81st year as producer of the country’s longest-running, family-friendly variety show, Vaud-Villities Productions will present “Wish You Were Here,” with songs such as “California Dreaming,” “Take the A Train” and “Uptown Funk” charting a musical journey across the country. Performances are 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Friday; 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Ohio Dominican University's Matesich Theater on the ODU campus, 1216 Sunbury Road. SmackDown to touch down at the Schott
Calling all wrestlemaniacs to the Schottenstein Center, 555 Borror Drive, at 7:45 p.m. Friday for WWE Friday Night SmackDown. The ring action will feature such wrestling superstars as Braun Strowman, the Usos, tag team champs Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, SmackDown women's champion Rhea Ripley, and from Monday Night RAW, Chad Gable vs. Finn Balor, among others. The Wex presents 27th annual short film fest
Columbus-born filmmaker Colin West, director of the critically acclaimed feature "Linoleum," will judge Ohio Shorts, an annual showcase of short films made around the state. Screenings begin at 7 p.m. Saturday in the film/video theater of OSU's Wexner Center for the Arts, 1871 N. High St. More than a dozen shorts in genres like documentary, animation, dramatic narrative and everything in between will be shown. A post-screening reception with the filmmakers will be held in the center’s lower lobby, where West (also an Ohio Shorts alumnus) will announce the $500 Jury Award winner and the audience will vote on the $300 Audience Choice Award recipient. Peter Case to play eclectic rock at Natalie's
With an eclectic body of work embracing rock 'n' roll, contemporary folk and blues, Peter Case will come to Natalie's Grandview, 945 King Ave., at 9 p.m. Saturday with opener Ben de la Cour. Doors open at 8 p.m. A founding member of the early punk trio The Nerves, Case has shared bills with the Ramones, Devo and many others. As a songwriter, he has shown himself to be a master of storytelling with a keen understanding of underdogs and lost souls. He recently released his 16th album, "Doctor Moan." Tickets are $25. Bridal show to march down the aisle
Enjoy fashion shows, cash prizes and giveaways, live music, food sampling and meetings with wedding professionals from 12:30-5 p.m. Sunday at the Ohio Bridal & Wedding Expo at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, 400 N. High St. In addition, professionally trained dancers will give free lessons, and makeup artists will be on hand to glam you up. Jazz all-stars swing into Clintonville
The Central Ohio Hot Jazz Society (COHJS) will present the Midwest All-Stars Jazz Band and Swing Dance from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Clintonville Woman's Club, 3951 N. High St. The band includes musicians from Toledo, Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus and Ann Arbor, Michigan. The event is BYOB, plus there will be hotdogs, snacks, tea, coffee and soda for purchase. Expo to offer all things reptilian
If your pet preferences run toward slithery and crawly critters, the Columbus Reptile Expo is right up your alley! Taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion, 3253 S. High St., the family-oriented event will feature live reptiles from quality breeders, feeders, dry goods/supplies and anything you need to complete your enclosure. There will be no endangered, protected, venomous or native Ohio species. Also, a prize giveaway will offer a choice between $25 or a juvenile bearded dragon. Past patrons to share Summit Station memories
In 1980, there were over 200 lesbian bars in the country; now, only 25 remain. Open from 1970 to 2008, Summit Station (also known as Jack's) in Columbus was the state's longest-running lesbian bar. Former patrons will gather at 6:30 p.m. April 26 (Lesbian Visibility Day) for "Every Night is Ladies Night: Stories from Summit Station" to share tales about the bar and its role in the lesbian, gender non-conforming, queer, and trans community. The event will be held in the Ross Community Studio at WOSU Public Media, 1800 N. Pearl St. Tickets are $12 general admission, $6 students and seniors, and complimentary for those in need. Net proceeds from ticket sales will go toward the making of a documentary about Summit Station (working title: "Free Beer Tomorrow.") The program is supported in part by Ohio Humanities. Author series continues at main library
The Sesquicentennial Author Series at the Columbus Metropolitan Library will continue April 26 at the main branch, 96 S. Grant Ave., with authors and longtime friends Kristin Harmel, Kristy Woodson Harvey, Patti Callahan Henry and Mary Kay Andrews. In addition to having collectively written more than 70 books, the bestselling authors host "Friends & Fiction," which can be seen at 7 p.m. Wednesdays on Facebook Live and their YouTube channel. CAPA to host kid-centric celebration
Music, dance, theater and more are in store at CAPA's Day of the Children/El Día de los Niños celebration from 1-4 p.m. April 30 at the Lincoln Theatre, 769 Long St. Activities will include a performance and instruction by Ballet Folclorico Xochihua; crafts with the Girl Scouts of Central Ohio; balloon art by Evan Smith; and a Milagro Intention Wall created by Columbus Museum of Art, where participants can create their own inspirational art pieces. The Dos Hermanos food truck also will be on site. At 3 p.m., Glass Half Full Theatre of Austin, Texas, will present "Cenicienta: A Bilingual Cinderella," a family-friendly, modern Cinderella story for all ages.
