10 displaced after Duryea house fire

DURYEA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Crews were called to a fire in Duryea that authorities say displaced 10 people.

At about 4:06 p.m., officials say fire crews from Hughestown, Duryea, Pittston, West Pittston, and Avoca were called to the 500 block of Foote Ave in Duryea for a reported structure fire.

Excelsior Hose Co. #2 Borough Fire Chief Jeff Hughes told 28/22 News on scene there were initial reports of a fire condition in the basement and an entrapment in the house.

However, it was later determined there was no entrapment and the fire was extinguished in five minutes, according to Fire Chief Hughes.

10 people living in the house have been displaced and the Red Cross was notified, Fire Chief Hughes explained.

Fire Chief Hughes reports there are no injuries at this time and the Pennsylvania State Police and Fire Marshall have been contacted.

So far, the incident is not viewed as suspicious in nature at this time, according to Fire Chief Hughes.
