10 Greensburg businesses share $90,000 in covid-19 relief funds

Jun. 22—Several Greensburg business owners are sharing $90,000 in grant funding aimed at helping them recover from the economic fallout of the covid-19 pandemic.

Issued by the Greensburg Community Development Corporation as part of the Covid-19 Main Street Jump Start program, the funding went to 10 city businesses that experienced financial loss as a result of the pandemic. It was part of a second round of funding that opened in late February.

Businesses that received funds from the second round include: Bella Unique Boutique, Caffe Barista, Crossroads Boutique, Detrick & Kelly Chiropractic Clinic, DV8 Espresso Bar & Gallery, Major Stokes, Herbs to your Health, Lapels A Fine Men's Clothier, Mancuso's and McFeely's Gourmet Chocolate.

"Based on the tremendous impact the first round of grants has had in our city, we are excited to be able to help even more local businesses and aid in their ability to recover from the pandemic stronger than ever," Ashley Kertes, executive director of the Greensburg Community Development Corporation, said in a news release.

The Covid-19 Main Street Jump Start Program began in July after the nonprofit received a $150,000 grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation as part of its Covid-19 Economic Impact and Recovery Funding Initiative. Throughout the city, 25 businesses were awarded grants totaling about $140,000.

A second round of grants became available after the city was awarded federal relief funds through the existing Community Development Block Grant program.

Grants top out at $10,000 and can be used to pay for services vital to sustaining a small business, such as marketing and advertising, accounting and finance, human resources, legal needs and information technology services.

To qualify, businesses had to demonstrate financial loss, be located in the city and have fewer than 10 employees.
