10 LGBTQ+ Shows That Were Removed From Their Streaming Platforms

Showtime and HBO Max have been deleting original queer shows from their streaming services

One of the worst parts about this current age of streaming is how hard it can be to watch some of our favorite shows. Not only do we have to own a dozen different services to watch all of our shows, but recently, we’ve learned that the streamers can simply just delete a show off their platform without any notice.

Platforms like HBO Max and Showtime have been deleting shows that they created in order to save money on paying residuals. And it’s often been queer shows that are suffering because of this.

Here are 10 LGBTQ-inclusive shows that have not only been canceled, but deleted by their original streaming platforms.

The L Word: Generation Q

We learned from Autostraddle that not only has The L Word: Generation Q been canceled, but Showtime has also completely removed the show from its streaming platform.

12 Dates of Christmas

This HBO Max reality dating show featured a group of singles looking for love in a holiday castle. Both seasons featured gay suitors, and season two had a lesbian suitor. Unfortunately, they’re gone from the platform.

Finding Magic Mike

Based on the hit movie series, this reality competition show looked to find men who had “lost their magic” and wanted to find it again. Season 1 winner Johnny Dutch even came out as sexually fluid. Now, this sexy show is gone from HBO Max.

Genera+ion

This super queer, coming-of-age show starred Justice Smith and a diverse group of teens and young adults. It was co-created by father-daughter team Zelda (who was 17) and Daniel Barnz. It was canceled and deleted from HBO Max after just one season.

Legendary

This iconic reality competition show had some of our favorite ballroom houses vogueing and competing for trophies for judges Megan Thee Stallion, Keke Palmer, Law Roach, Jameela Jamil, and Leiomy Maldonado. It was canceled after three seasons and deleted from HBO Max.

Little Ellen

This kid’s cartoon followed a young, fictionalized Ellen DeGeneres and aired one season and had finished another before being canceled. Now, it’s been removed from HBO Max.

Masters of Sex

This period drama about Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson’s groundbreaking research into human sexuality featured several queer characters and themes throughout its four seasons. Now, it’s been deleted from Showtime.

Minx

This comedy series about a feminist in the 1970s creating the first women’s erotic magazine had one season on HBO Max before it was canceled and deleted. Thankfully, it will be back soon on Starz. One of the characters, Bambi, was a magazine centerfold and had a relationship with another woman named Shelly.

Westworld

Westworld starred queer stars Evan Rachel Wood, Tessa Thompson, and even Ariana DeBose towards the end, but after it was canceled by HBO Max, it was also removed from the platform. It also included a few queer characters like Clementine, Marti, Frankie Nichols, Dustin Levy, and Logan Delos.
