BBC/World of Wonder

The fifth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is now upon us, which makes this the perfect time to look back at some of the best moments in the herstory of the BBC series.

From the OG top three finalists The Vivienne, Divina De Campo, and Baga Chipz in season one to the latest grand finale in season four between four-time maxi challenge winners Danny Beard and Cheddar Gorgeous, Drag Race UK has given us a lot of iconic performances, hilarious moments, exciting girl-group bops, and new drag superstars that we’ve fallen in love with.

In many ways, the BBC’s Drag Race UK series is forging a path of its own that has little to do with the long-running flagship American show airing on MTV and Paramount+. The UK queens that appear on Drag Race are becoming legitimate superstars who go on to tour the world, release original music, compete on other reality shows, star in theatrical productions in the West End, and so on.

Given how excited we are for the fifth season of Drag Race UK, let’s take a quick trip down memory lane and revisit some of the series’ most iconic moments so far.

Scroll through to see the most iconic moments in RuPaul’s Drag Race UK herstory – and make sure to tune into season five premiering this Thursday, September 28 on WOW Presents Plus.

Snatch Game UK: BEST MOMENTS

The first real evidence that we were in for an incredible new Drag Race show came during the first-ever Snatch Game of the UK series. The back-and-forth between The Vivienne (as Donald Trump) and Baga Chipz (as Margaret Thatcher) had the judges and viewers laughing out loud, proving that these two drag superstars were worthy contenders of snatching the crown.

The girl-groups challenge is now a staple on Drag Race UK, and that only happened due to the gigantic success of this challenge in the first season. Together, Blu Hydrangea, Divina De Campo, and Baga Chipz formed the Frock Destroyers and delivered a legendary performance of “Break Up (Bye Bye)” – which literally climbed the iTunes and streaming charts for quite some time.

A Red Wig And a Silver Dress?

There was a clear tension between Divina De Campo and The Vivienne throughout Drag Race UK season one. Even though these two talented queens tried to keep things under control, their dynamic exploded in a moment when the Viv pointed out that she only knew Divina prior to the show a a queen who wore a red wig and a silver dress. This prompted Divina to respond with one of the most iconic Drag Race quotes of all time: “Bullsh*t, Vivienne. A red wig and a silver dress? I don’t think.”

Musical theater nerds had been edging for years asking for Drag Race to start incorporating show tunes in the lip syncs. In comes the lip sync to “Memory” (a song best from the Cats musical) between Tayce and the late Cherry Valentine. With just her look, makeup, and facial expressions, Tayce delivered one of the most fascinating and mesmerizing lip sync performances in herstory.

A year after the Frock Destroyers took over the world with “Break Up (Bye Bye),” we watched Lawrence Chaney, Bimini, A’Whora, and Tayce assembling into the United Kingdolls and giving us an even bigger Drag Race UK bop with the original song “UK Hun?” Simply put, this is the best girl-groups performance of all time, from any Drag Race show, period.

RuPaul - Full H&M rant

Drag Race UK season two had to go on a production hiatus of seven months due to the first outbreak of COVID-19 at the time. This meant that the girl-groups challenge episode was filmed after the entire cast of judges and queens had been in lockdown for seven months… and let’s just say that Mama Ru had a lot of feelings to unleash after hearing from Joe Black that they were wearing clothes purchased from H&M on the runway.

Bimini’s Katie Price Snatch Game (Season 2)

Season two superstar Bimini Bon-Boulash – known simply known as Bimini – proved that she was so much more than just a fashion queen when she impersonated Katie Price at the Snatch Game in season two. This entire performance was absolutely incredible, so by the time Bimini unleashed the iconic quote, “The nipples are the eyes to the face,” we were all already dying from laughing.

Whether or not you knew Nigella before this, Ella perfectly captured her essence and was able to make everybody laugh the whole way through. It’s hard to think of a queen with a more iconic sashay away moment than Vanessa Vanjie Mateo in season 10. But as far as Drag Race UK is concerned, Sminty Drop giving us this “sad twerking” moment after being eliminated was pretty freaking hilarious and iconic. Many fans consider this to be the most memorable Drag Race UK exit so far, and we have to agree that we were all cracking up!

Danny Beard and Cheddar Gorgeous steamrolled the competition throughout season of Drag Race UK. In the end, both queens arrived at the grand finale with four maxi challenge wins each. They also made it to the end without ever lip syncing for their lives. All of this build-up culminated in one of the most legendary lip syncs for the crown in Drag Race herstory. While Danny ultimately snatched the crown, the fans were literally begging for this to be a double crowning.
