At first glance, Disney+ may seem like it’s only filled with cartoons and movies for kids — but that’s far from the case. Since launching in 2019, Disney+ has flown a little under the radar, especially as some of its competitors have ramped up their own streaming services.
Not only is there a huge list of classic Disney films available to watch, there’s also a whole host of movies and shows that will keep the entire family entertained. Available for just $9 a month (or a discounted $90 a year), you’ll have access to the full library of Disney, Pixar and National Geographic content.

The Simpsons
Since Disney acquired 21st Century Fox last year, you can now catch up on all 30 seasons of the long-running cartoon. There’s no beating its combination of pop culture, celebrity cameos and slapstick comedy, making it an ideal choice as we stay indoors for the foreseeable future.
The X-Men Series
Thanks to Disney’s deal with 21st Century Fox, you can now stream all of the X-Men movies from 2000’s X-Men to 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. With all the time skipping and multiple universes, I’ll leave the order in which to watch them up to you though.
Remember The Titans
In case you didn’t know, this heartfelt movie inspired by a true story (and starring Denzel Washington as a high school football coach) was actually a Disney feature. Now you can go back and cheer on Washington’s team of underdogs whenever you like.
Home Alone (1-3)
In case you’re among those who are looking to spread some cheer by bringing back the holidays in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, you’ll want to throw on these classics while you work.
Boy Meets World
Any child of the ‘90s will remember Corey Matthews and his gang of middle schoolers, along with the unforgettable advice of his wise teacher Mr. Feeny. Filled with heartwarming life lessons that are resolved in under 30 minutes, this series is a great pick if you’re looking to turn off your brain for a few minutes.
10 Things I Hate About You
Before Heath Ledger was chilling audiences as The Joker, he was seen as a teen heartthrob, all thanks to a little movie called “10 Things I Hate About You.” Starring opposite Julia Stiles in this retelling of Shakespeare's “Taming of The Shrew,” this teen drama is a must-see.
Free Solo
Along with dozens of other National Geographic programs, Disney+ grants you access to movies like this 2019 Academy Award winner. In this harrowing documentary, follow professional rock climber Alex Honnold as he attempts to climb the famed El Capitan rock face at Yosemite National Park, all without harnesses or safety gear.
Never Been Kissed
If you’re in the mood for a romantic comedy, you can't go wrong with this 1999 flick starring Drew Barrymore as a newspaper reporter who goes undercover as a high school student.
Mrs. Doubtfire
Looking for a good laugh? This Robin Williams classic is one of the many live-action films from the ‘90s available on Disney+, and is a great way to occupy your own kids if you need a break for a couple of hours.
The Sound of Music
This feel-good musical is one of my personal favourites, and I was thrilled when I realized that I could sing ‘The Hills are Alive’ to my heart’s content. It is a long movie, so be prepared to set aside most of your evening if you do decide to watch this one as a family.
