These 10 Nashville intersections have seen the most car crashes in the last year

While mayoral candidates propose different ways to manage Nashville's growth, one thing is certain unless action is taken: Traffic will only get worse.

That comes with dangerous risks. Fatal car crashes in Davidson County have increased each year since 2018. Last year also saw the most pedestrian deaths in Nashville on record.

Just days ago, a 28-year-old man died after he was struck by the driver of a speeding Dodge Charger attempting to weave through traffic. The incident occurred on Murfreesboro Pike — which data shows is one of the most dangerous thoroughfares in Music City.

The Tennessean used data from the Metro Nashville Police Department to identify the 10 intersections that saw the most traffic crashes reported to MNPD in the last 12 months, from Aug. 1, 2022, to July 31, 2023.

Because MNPD’s data for car wrecks on interstates is too vague for helpful comparison, interstates are kept off this list. (For example, the most frequent address listed in the data is the intersection of the I-40 East exit ramp and I-40, but which exit ramp isn’t specified.)

1. Murfreesboro Pike and Mountain Springs Road

The most dangerous intersection might not have been what you were expecting.

MNPD reported that 71 crashes have occurred at the intersection of Murfreesboro Pike and Mountain Springs Road, a dense residential street in Antioch. Fourteen of those were hit-and-runs.

Several other residential streets feed into Mountain Springs Road, and drivers must turn left onto Murfreesboro Pike to go toward Nashville.

Notably, this intersection lacks a traffic signal.

2. Murfreesboro Pike and Bell Road

Murfreesboro Pike makes its second appearance on this list for its intersection with Bell Road in Antioch, where the streets — nine and eight lanes across — meet at a diagonal.

There were 64 crashes at this intersection last year.

3. Murfreesboro Pike and Hobson Pike

Less than a mile from the most dangerous intersection in the city, the meeting of Murfreesboro Pike and Hobson Pike is the third most dangerous intersection.

The intersection is located less than half a mile from the Mountain Springs residential street, Antioch High School and Mt. View Elementary School.

There were 57 crashes here last year.

4. Harding Place and Antioch Pike

There were 54 crashes reported where Harding Place crosses Antioch Pike, adding to the list of dangerous intersections in and around Antioch.

5. Murfreesboro Pike and Hamilton Church Road

MNPD reported 52 crashes at the intersection of Murfreesboro Pike and Hamilton Church Road in the Antioch area, just two miles north of the city’s other most dangerous intersections at Mountain Springs Road and Hobson Pike. The intersection is near a few apartment complexes and a Walmart.

6. Korean Veterans Boulevard and 8th Avenue S.

The downtown roundabout where Lafayette Street, 8th Avenue South and Korean Veterans Boulevard meet saw 49 traffic collisions last year, making it one of the most dangerous intersections in the city. The intersection is also the site of the "Stix" public art installation.

7. Clarksville Pike and Buena Vista Pike

The first location north of downtown on this list, the intersection of Clarksville Pike and Buena Vista Pike in the Bordeaux community was the site of 46 traffic wrecks in the last year. It’s the first intersection on Clarksville Pike once crossing the Cumberland River.

8. Nolensville Pike and Harding Place

Where Nolensville Pike and Harding Place meet, roughly between the Oak Hill and Antioch areas, saw 41 crashes in the last year. TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center is located just south of this intersection along Nolensville Pike.

9. Murfreesboro Pike and Forest View Drive

Yet another dangerous intersection is located in Antioch, where Murfreesboro Pike and Forest View Drive meet. There were 37 crashes reported at this intersection in the last year.

10. Lebanon Pike and Andrew Jackson Parkway

Located in Hermitage, Lebanon Pike and Andrew Jackson Parkway was the site of 35 crashes in the last year.
