10 From NYC Israeli Consulate Test Positive For COVID-19: Report

NEW YORK, NY — Israel's Consul General in New York, Asaf Zamir, was one of 10 staff members at the Israeli Consulate in New York City to test positive for coronavirus Sunday, according to a tweet from Kann News.

Zamir was recently at the Israeli-American Council's annual conference in Florida.

Israel's Health Ministry recommended Sunday that the country bar travel to the United States because of the outbreak of the omicron variant, according to Israel National News.

The Israeli government is set to vote on the recommendation Sunday evening and, if the recommendation is accepted, the travel restrictions would go into effect Wednesday, according to the report.

Foreign travelers have been barred from visiting Israel since a travel ban was imposed Nov. 28.
