10-year-old girl remains missing in Isle of Wight as search enters Day 2

The search continues for a 10-year-old Isle of Wight girl who went missing from her parents’ home early Monday morning.

Katelyn Clark was missing when her parents woke up. When they reviewed their security footage they saw that she left out the back of their house on Green Wig Drive in the Carrolton neighborhood around 6:30 a.m. She was wearing her pajamas and a black rain coat, according to the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office’s initial news release about Clark going missing came out shortly before 6 p.m. Monday and the search continued late into the night before being suspended until the morning at 10:27 p.m. The search resumed at first light Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said.

The Norfolk Police Department’s Drone Unit and Virginia State Police are assisting in the search. There has not been an Amber Alert, which is issued when law enforcement have reason to believe a child has been abducted or is in imminent danger of serious injury or death.

“At this time, this case does not meet the criteria for the issuance of an Amber Alert,” said Captain T. Potter in a news release. “However, we are in close consultation with the Virginia State Police.”

The sheriff’s office has asked the public not to conduct their own searches for Katelyn because it could interfere with their own investigation.

Katelyn isn’t known to have any medical or psychological conditions, the sheriff’s office said. She is 4 feet tall, weighing 80 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. In addition to her pajamas and black rain coat, she was wearing blue and pink shoes.
