10-year-old struck while riding bike in Georgetown Township

GEORGETOWN TWP. — A 10-year-old was hit by a car while riding her bike Wednesday, Oct. 5, authorities said.

It happened around 5:45 p.m. near 20th Avenue and Caroline Street in Georgetown Township. The girl was trying to cross the street at the crosswalk when she was hit by a northbound vehicle, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The bicyclist, who Ottawa County dispatch said is 9 years old, but OCSO later said is 10 years old, was brought to the hospital in critical condition. Deputies said she was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the car, a 37-year-old woman from Jenison, was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
