10 people injured, including children, as NYPD vehicle crashes into crowded Bronx sidewalk

Ten people were injured, including two children, after an New York City police vehicle collided with a car and crashed into a Bronx sidewalk Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The collision happened at about 3 p.m. ET near the intersection of Hoe and Westchester avenues, which is a little more than 2 miles east of Yankee Stadium, police said.

Ten people were injured, Chief of Patrol Jeffrey Maddrey told reporters. The victims include a 65-year-old, a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old, Maddrey said.

Two police officers were also among the injured, the Fire Department of New York said.

Two officers were in their marked vehicle when it ran into a civilian's car, and "as a result of the collision, the police vehicle mounted a curb and struck multiple pedestrians," police said in a statement.

The seriousness of their injuries was not immediately known.

The officers were responding to larceny call when it was cut off in traffic, NBC New York reported.
