Across the country, Sept. 7 is a day dedicated to those who enjoy an ice cold beer.

It's National Beer Lover's Day.

And while the designation may seem silly, it's an opportunity to appreciate the growing craft beer scene in Springfield and the surrounding area.

The past decade has seen enormous growth in the local craft beer scene, with several new breweries opening in the Ozarks with live music, game nights and more.

One of those relatively new favorites is Hold Fast Brewing Company, located in an old fire station on Kimbrough Avenue in Springfield. It is owned by sisters Susan and Carol McLeod.

"National Beer Lovers Day means to us that beer is a way to bring family, friends and the community together," Carol McLeod said. "It is a great opportunity to spend time with those that you care about and enjoy a great refreshing pint of your favorite brew."

McLeod said the craft beer scene in the Ozarks has changed significantly over time and she has noticed that people want to drink local and support local businesses.

"An IPA made at Hold Fast right from a bright tank into a keg is going to taste different from something that is shipped across the country," McLeod said.

Breweries throughout the Ozarks will have specials and events running all day Wednesday. McLeod told that News-Leader that Hold Fast will do $4 pints on National Beer Lovers Day.
