These are the 10 richest counties in Illinois, analysis finds. How St. Clair County fared

With a median income of $63,017, St. Clair County is the 28th wealthiest county in Illinois, according to a recent analysis from tech company SmartAsset.

Measuring median income, investment income and median home value of each county, SmartAsset ranked all U.S. counties on wealth. The company used data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Internal Revenue Service and popular real estate site Zillow for the report.

St. Clair County’s median income is about $9,500 less than the statewide figure, which is $72,563. The county’s investment income, meanwhile, is about the same as the statewide number, at $21,989 to Illinois’ $21,770.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 13.3% of St. Clair County’s population lives in poverty.

With a median income exceeding $100,000, DuPage County is the richest county in Illinois, SmartAsset reports. Just one metro-east county, Monroe, made the top 10 list.

DuPage County, while the wealthiest in Illinois, ranked 171st nationally. Lake County came in at the 262nd spot. St. Clair ranked 1,477th among the richest counties in the U.S.

Four California counties and one in Massachusetts made up the top five, while counties in New York, Wyoming and Virginia all made it into the top 10.

With a median income of $136,837, San Mateo County in California took first place as the richest U.S. county.
