10 Taunton area sports pubs and restaurants serving March Madness-worthy grub

When it comes to March, St. Patrick’s Day might take the spotlight as far as holidays go, but there’s another big event that sports fans will be celebrating in a big way:

Starting March 14 and going until April 3, March Madness is upon us.

The NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament begins with 68 teams and narrows down to just one champion, in a yearly sporting spectacle that usually takes the country by storm.

The Greater Taunton area no doubt has its fair share of NCAA fans, who have been gearing up and hungry for this year’s tournament.

In honor of March Madness, we’ve rounded up 10 different sports bars and restaurants from around Greater Taunton where you can satisfy your hunger for March Madness while enjoying some game-worthy treats:

Home Plate Bay Street Grill, Taunton

Hours: Saturday to Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to midnight; Thursday and Friday, from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.

While you’re watching the game: How about building your own legendary burger? Starting with the patty, choose from: chuck, brisket, short rib beef; Butterball turkey; black bean burger; or an Impossible burger. For toppings, you’ve got your pick of American, Swiss, cheddar or pepper jack cheese, bacon, peppers, onions, mushrooms, jalapeño, or an egg, any style. Gluten free burger rolls are available. Every burger also comes with the choice of one side: Home Plate fries, red skin mashed potatoes, baked potato, vegetable of the day, rice pilaf, broccoli or homemade coleslaw.

While you’re watching the game: Order some of Harry’s ever-popular Jumbo Jet Wings. Serving sizes are four, six, eight or 10, with your choice of sauce: Buffalo (medium, Afterburner, or Atomic), BBQ, sweet bourbon, spicy gold BBQ, teriyaki, Asian sweet chili, garlic parmesan, plain or Mississippi honey BBQ. While you’re watching the game: How about some mushroom madness? You can get mushrooms a couple of different ways at the Ugly Duckling. They serve fried fresh button mushrooms, with horseradish sauce. Or try the stuffed mushroom caps, with half a dozen to an order, filled with a vegetarian-friendly, homemade, lemon-and-herb-seasoned stuffing, baked, and topped with melted cheese.
