10 things to do in the Coachella Valley this week, March 26 to April 1

There are always plenty of things to do in the Coachella Valley. We've put together a list of events and entertainment happening this week.

The 10th annual Palm Springs Jewish Film Festival will screen 17 movies over the course of three days and many of them will be followed by Q&As with cast and crew members. The festival will open with a concert by singer Svetlana Portnyansky at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 26 and separate tickets for the concert are available to purchase.

When: Various times Sunday through Wednesday, March 26-29

Where: Palm Springs Cultural Center, 2300 E. Baristo Road, Palm Springs

Tickets: $12 for individual films, $35 for concert, $150 for a platinum pass, which includes admission to all films and the concert

Local artists within the Coachella Valley are opening their studios to the public for the second half of this two-weekend event concluding Sunday. Take this self-guided tour to discover your new favorite pieces of art and meet the creators behind them. Sunday T-Dance 10th anniversary

Oscar’s Downtown Palm Springs is celebrating the 10th year of its Sunday T-Dance event. The event aims to uphold the long-standing tradition of the tea dance, which became seminal to gay culture upon its founding in the 1950s in New York. There will be a live performance by Jai Rodriquez and music supplied by DJ Bob Sketch. Tickets purchased online will be granted a line pass on the day of the event.

When: 4-8 p.m. Sunday, March 26

The Moody Blues’ John Lodge Performs 'Days of Future Passed'

Legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues John Lodge is currently on tour, and he added a special one-off symphony show to serve as the American tour finale. Step back in time with this Rock and Roll Hall of Famer as he joins the Coachella Valley Symphony on stage to perform the album "Days of Future Passed," which recently celebrated its 55th anniversary, in its entirety. This concert will also include a special recording by the late Graeme Edge and performances by Jon Davison of YES.

Estella Fransbergen art exhibition

The latest art exhibition at the CODA Gallery spotlights Estella Fransbergen, a sculptor who grew up in South Africa and has work that has been exhibited in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Her pieces displayed at the CODA Gallery consist of sculpted torsos made of various mediums from clay to bronze. Each of them are embellished with a variety of materials, which include pearls, rose quartz, amethyst and more.

When: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, through March 31

Artists Council is hosting its first photography show and sale, which consists of over 100 images that range from macro floral photography to landscape photography. All of the photos come from members of Artists Council, which is a nonprofit organization that aims to promote and help develop artists from the Coachella Valley and beyond. The photographs can be purchased at the show or online through the Artists Council website.

When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays, through April 23

Spring Carnival

The Shops at Palm Desert is hosting the Spring Carnival, a four-day event featuring an array of food, carnival rides, games and entertainment. On Thursday, they are offering ride tickets for $2. For those who want to experience all of the rides, there will be an unlimited day wristband available for the weekend.

When: 5-10 p.m. Thursday to Friday, 2-10 p.m. Saturday to Sunday, March 30 to April 2

Heart of Blonde

For anyone wanting to relive the '80s or experience the neon lit decade, the tide is high for this '80s-inspired event. There will be tributes to Blondie featuring Mindy Milburn and one to Madonna–the two iconic blonde haired women of the era. Two ticket options are available and overnight hotel guests can get in free.

This lecture will be held at the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Center. Attendees will learn about how coyotes live in a human civilization and how people can make adjusts to help them survive. RSVP is required for the event and tickets must be brought for check-in at 10:45 a.m.
