10 things to do this weekend include OSU football, Tracy Morgan, 'Marvel,' The Shins

This weekend will usher in the first game of the Ohio State football season as the Buckeyes face off against Notre Dame. If that's not enough to satisfy your sports jones, the Clippers will be playing Thursday through Sunday.

Looking for laughs? Get your funny bone tickled by "Saturday Night Live" alum Tracy Morgan, who's bringing his "Working it Out Tour" to town this weekend. It'll also be your last chance to see the “Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes” exhibit at COSI and the last hurrah at Zoombezi Bay, where the season ends on Labor Day.

Tracy Morgan 'Working It Out Tour' coming to Columbus

One of the most popular comedians in the world, Tracy Morgan, will take the stage Friday and Saturday at the Funny Bone at Easton Town Center. Morgan will perform his “Working It Out Tour” during several shows this weekend. The shows are for fans 21 and older. A four-person table costs $192, a two-person table is $96, and a single seat at a shared table is $48. Tickets are limited for the Friday and Saturday night performances. (www.standupmedia.com.)

Still not safe to go back into the water

Before the summer draws to a close, check out the ultimate summer blockbuster on the big screen. Starting Thursday and continuing through Sunday, the Gateway Film Center, 1550 N. High St., will screen Steven Spielberg’s 1975 masterpiece “Jaws.” Roy Scheider stars as weary police chief Martin Brody, Richard Dreyfuss as determined scientist Matt Hooper, and Robert Shaw as ill-tempered fisherman Quint. A weekend run of Columbus Clippers games

Take the family out to the ball park and watch the Columbus Clippers play the Iowa Cubs at Huntington Park, 333 Huntington Park Lane in the Arena District. Games will begin at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, 7:05 p.m. Friday, 12:05 p.m. Saturday and 1:15 p.m. Sunday. The Thursday game offers a celebration of the Latin community and “Thirsty Thursday” beverage specials; a pre-game party with J.T. Hillier as well as “$5 Friday” food and beverage specials will be offered Friday; and a family special in which two adults and up to four kids can be admitted for $18 will be offered Sunday. Butterfly Weekend to take flight at Blendon Woods

Monarchs are on the move, and those who want to learn more about them and other native butterflies can head to the nature center at Blendon Woods Metro Park, 4265 E. Dublin Granville Road, Westerville, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday through Monday for Butterfly Weekend. Daily activities include 10 a.m. programs on gardening for butterflies, 11 a.m. and noon puppet shows, butterfly hikes at 12:30 p.m. and monarch tagging at 1:30 p.m. Guests are invited to bring a T-shirt or bandana and make a butterfly-themed souvenir. Last chance this season to enjoy Zoombezi Bay

Soak up the final weekend of Zoombezi Bay from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday through Monday, 4850 Powell Road, Delaware County. Labor Day will mark the end of the season at the water park. Challenge yourself on multiple water slides, relax in Baboon Lagoon, body surf in the Wave Pool or, if you're 21 or older, enjoy an adult beverage at the walk-up or swim-up Sandbar. The Shins to mark 21st anniversary of first album at Kemba Live

Indie rock band the Shins, led by founding member James Mercer, will celebrate the 21st birthday of the band's first album, “Oh, Inverted World” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Kemba Live, 405 Neil Ave. Plans are to play the album through from start to finish at the outdoor, rain-or-shine show, with Mercer accompanied by the current group of musicians now constituting the band. Snail Mail to perform at the Columbus Athenaeum

Twenty-three-year-old indie rocker, guitarist and singer-songwriter Lindsey Jordan, who performs under the name Snail Mail, will show off her gift for unconventional romantic songs at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Columbus Athenaeum, 32 N. 4th St. Expect an emphasis on her critically well-received 2021 album, “Valentine.” Opening will be indie rock bands Momma and Hotline TNT. Ohio State football opens season at home in top 5 matchup

It’s finally football season. Ohio State, ranked No. 2 in the country in the USA Today Coaches Poll, will host Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m., on Saturday at Ohio Stadium, 411 Woody Hayes Drive. The Buckeyes enter the season as one of the favorites to win a national championship and hope to begin the season with a win against No. 5 Notre Dame. How about a cooking class for date night?

Looking for an interactive date night to get the weekend started early? At 6 p.m. on Thursday at Columbus State Community College, 550 E. Last chance to see 'Marvel' exhibition at COSI

This weekend, aspiring superheroes in your family will have one last chance to check out “Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes,” an exhibition at COSI, 333 W. Broad St., which wraps up its run on Labor Day. Among the 300-plus treasures on display are original costumes from the movie “Black Panther,” Thor’s hammer from the movies “The Avengers” and “Thor: The Dark World” and original artwork from “Marvel Comics #1” from 1939. See everything one last time — or for the first time — before the superheroes take off for good.
