A new study has revealed the top 10 cities in the UK with the nicest neighbours - and Cardiff in Wales has come out on top.

The locations were assessed on factors including how often neighbours helped with household chores, whether they complained about noise, and if they checked on their neighbour's homes while they were on holiday.

The research, conducted by Duette, is part of an ongoing study into which areas in the UK have the most mindful communities. To gather the information, over 2,400 Brits were asked about how well they get on with their neighbours.

The study found:

  • 51% said their neighbours took care of their house while they were away

  • 23% said their neighbours water their plants for them

  • 18% liked how their neighbours never make noise complaints

If living somewhere with friendly neighbours is one of your top priorities when moving house, then take a look at the list below.

Although the research revealed where the best neighbours are, it also gave an insight into the places where neighbours aren't as friendly.

These include...

  1. London

  2. Bristol

  3. Glasgow

  4. Liverpool

  5. Reading

The top reasons for scoring these five cities so low came down to people not speaking to their neighbours, having verbal arguments or being inconsiderate with noise.

"Having nice neighbours can make a huge difference; not only can you turn to them for help when you need it, such as when you go away, but it’s always someone to smile and wave at, sometimes talk to, and you never know who’s day you might be making by being kind," Sunny Matharu, a spokesperson for Duette said.

"Bad neighbours are never ideal, especially when all involved are arguing. For the sake of all involved, any issues should be discussed and resolved – it shouldn’t lead to someone having to up and move in order to feel settled and comfortable," continues Sunny.
