$100,000 in scholarships available for WA high school seniors, college students

Gesa Credit Union is offering $100,000 in scholarships next year to high school seniors and college students pursing degrees.

The Tri-Cities-based credit union encourages any students who have active student loans, are entering college for the first time or are continuing to pursue higher education to apply to receive part of the total award.

Applicants must be a Gesa member in good standing and, in most cases, have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0.

Deadline for applications is Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024.

Recipients will be notified on or before May 1.

“As a community-focused credit union, we are proud to offer resources like these that uplift and empower our community’s future leaders,” said Don Miller, Gesa’s president and CEO, in a statement. “By providing them with the support to overcome financial barriers, we can help them to thrive at any stage of their higher education journey.”

Since 1987, Gesa has awarded more than $1 million in scholarship money, said the credit union.

  • $50,000 will be awarded to high school seniors who have participated in Gesa’s High School Credit Union program.

  • $30,000 will be awarded to 12 high school seniors entering freshman year at college.

  • $15,000 will be awarded to six members looking to continue higher education.

  • $5,000 will be awarded to five members who have active student loans.
