The 100 season 8 – Everything you need to know
The 100 season 7 is sadly the show's final season and it's already kicked off on The CW in the US (UK fans are still waiting for it to arrive on E4).
Chatting to TVLine in 2019, executive producer Jason Rothenberg said: "We've actually been asking for this to be the last season for a while because we feel like it's time to get out while the getting's good.
"We want to leave [the fans] wanting more. We don't want to overstay our welcome. All the clichés."
"I don't know if the studio and network would have let us continue into season eight. I assume they would have. They were gracious enough to let us do 16 episodes, to get to episode 100 this year, so I assume they probably would have wanted more, but we were ready," he told Collider.
"It's a long time to be telling the story of one group of characters."
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rothenberg discussed what fans of the series can expect from the final chapter of the post-apocalyptic series.
"It'll be our version of a happy ending," he said.
"I can safely say that we're trying to say something more with season seven. The ending of a story always is the point of the story, the moral of the story. We have yet to reveal the moral of the story, but it will be revealed in season seven.
"And it won't be, 'People are horrible, we all suck, we're willing to kill everyone and everything and do anything to survive.'
"There's a higher purpose."
But plans are in motion to revisit a new story set within the same world.
TVLine reported that the spin-off (which is not called Anaconda, contrary to some reports), is once again being headed up by Rothenberg and will be a prequel set 97 years before the original series.
Two more days on The 100 Prequel (not called Anaconda, by the way). So proud of this amazing crew. So excited for you to meet this new cast. #The100 #Prequel

The narrative will follow "a band of survivors on the ground as they learn to cope in a dangerous world while fighting to create a new and better society from the ashes of what came before".
The pilot, which is titled 'Anaconda', will air during season seven.
To clarify... the S7 episode title of the prequel is ANACONDA. The title of the new (potential) series has not been released yet. #The100 #The100Prequel

Chatting to Collider, Rothenberg said that without the pilot episode, The 100 would have felt unfinished: "As [writer/executive producer] Kim Shumway and I started talking about what this new show could be, we realised that there was a perfect springboard into a potential Grounder origin story.
"It answers a lot of questions that are needed to be answered and certainly fills in some blanks this season, too.
"Without that episode, the story wouldn’t be complete."
The 100 airs on The CW in the US and E4 in the UK.
