100+ Women make 4th quarter donation to International Rescue Committee

The Tallahassee Chapter of 100+ Women Who Care is pleased to announce that the recipientof their fourth quarter funding is the International Rescue Committee (IRC) of Tallahassee.

The IRC Tallahassee’s mission is to provide comprehensive services to refugees, entrants,victims of human trafficking and other eligible immigrants residing in Leon County andNorthwest Florida by assisting their integration and path to self-sufficiency. The IRC helps thosein need to rebuild their lives and regain control of their future in their new home community.

IRC Tallahassee serves as a free, one-stop location for the needs of refugees during their firstpivotal months in the United States. Some of the many services include ensuring children areenrolled in school, assisting adults with employment or starting businesses and receivingmedical care. IRC helps refugees to learn about customs in America, learn English andbecome citizens.

Heading up the IRC Tallahassee staff of 20 is Leann Halsey, Site Manager, and LeahCostigan, Community Engagement Coordinator. It is hoped to use some of the $27,500received to expand their staff with new hires as well as to implement some new programs to theever increasing need for services already in place.

Since the inception of 100+ Women Who Care in November, 2020, donations totaling $213,600have funded various nonprofits in the Big Bend area, providing a substantial impact to theservices they provide. There are currently 228 members who commit to a $100 quarterlydonation.

Prior to the quarterly meeting, three nonprofits are chosen by drawing from nominationssubmitted by members. These three organizations are invited to have a representative attendand share their story at the quarterly meeting. Members then vote to determine whichorganization will receive the funds. If a member cannot attend in person, they always have theoption to attend virtually and vote online.
