103rd Annual Dinner and Community Awards Gala announced by Beckley Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — The date of the 103rd Annual Dinner and Community Awards Gala was announced by the Beckley Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce.

The Community Awards Gala, sponsored for 30 years by Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, will be at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center on May 9, 2024. In honor of Bill Withers, “Lovely Day” will be the Community Awards Gala’s theme.

The Awards Gala’s social hour is at 6:00 p.m. with dinner at 7:00 p.m., and the awards ceremony at 7:45 p.m. Lady D and Mission will provide the live music, and tickets are $100 per person or $125 when making a donation to the Bill Withers Statue Campaign. Table sponsorships are available.

The Gala is a red carpet event where the Prestigious Community Service and Leadership Award recipient will be acknowledged. The award, given each year since 1991, goes to an organization or business leader whose community service and leadership made the most positive impact on the community during their lifetime.

Some of the additional award categories at the Awards Gala will include: Hometown Legend, Selfless Volunteer, Mover of Mountains, Iron Pillar, Outstanding Contribution to The Arts, Partner in Education, and Youth Leadership.

The 2024 award will go to The Friends of Coal Ladies’ Auxiliary, a non-profit organization founded by Regina Fairchild in 2007 and headquartered in Beckley, West Virginia. While the organization started with 2,000 members in West Virginia, it grew into a nationwide organization with thousands of members. The Friends of Coal Ladies’ Auxiliary informs people about the significance of coal, and the importance of supporting coal miners and their families.

And, you know, I don’t think that they’ve been recognized, or we don’t think that they’ve been recognized so our Board of Directors wanted to recognize them this year for their work, their community service.
