Here are the 11 Sioux Falls restaurants planned to open (so far) in 2022

There's no doubt Sioux Falls loves its restaurants. With over 20 restaurants, bars and bakeries opening in 2021 and more national chains setting their sights on Sioux Falls each year, the city's dining scene is only getting better.

Already, there are 11 restaurants planning to open in Sioux Falls in 2022.

There will be several more announcements throughout next year, but here's what we know so far:

Swamp Daddy's

Planned opening: January 2022

The Louisiana-style restaurant is moving just down the hall at the Jones421 building at 421 N. Phillips Ave. in downtown Sioux Falls. Owners planned to move into the new space in September, but construction delays impacted their timeline. Now, the restaurant, which will include beer and wine sales along with an expanded menu and dine-in seating for about 80 people, is planned to open in January.

Freddy's

Planned opening: January 2022

Kansas-based Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers is entering the Sioux Falls market with a new restaurant location at the Dawley Farms in eastern Sioux Falls. The menu includes steak burgers, chicken sandwiches, frozen custard and other diner food. Vice President of Commercial Real Estate at Lloyd Cos. Raquel Blount said the restaurant is planned to open in January 2022.

Planned opening: February 2022

The opening of Papa Woody's larger downtown space was pushed back to February 2022 due to construction delays. The restaurant at 775 N. Phillips Ave. will quadruple its space, transition to a full-service restaurant with an expanded menu and feature a wrap-around porch. Owners also plan to add a liquor license with a full bar.

Dave & Busters

Planned opening: February 2022

Arcade bar and food destination Dave & Buster's officially resumed construction after a year-long delay due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Lake Lorraine location is set to open in early 2022.

Charlie's Pizza

Planned opening: March 2022

After more than 30 years, Charlie's Pizza is returning to Sioux Falls and planning to open by February 2022 at 6213 S. Old Village Place in southern Sioux Falls, owners told the Argus Leader in fall 2021. Yankton's Charlie's Pizza is the oldest still-operating pizza house in the state and has been selected three times by Food Network Magazine for serving the best pizza in South Dakota.

La Michoakanita

Planned opening: Early 2022

The owner of Giliberto's is turning the original taco shop location at 712 S. Minnesota Ave. into a Mexican artisan ice cream shop after moving Giliberto's next door. Frozen treats made out of fresh fruit will be on the menu along with pistachio, coffee, mango and lime flavored ice creams among others. The shop is expected to open in early 2022.

Cathedral District neighborhood restaurant

The 1902-built former Eftting & Co. Grocery store on the corner of Ninth Street and Grange Avenue is planned to be renovated into a coffee shop or neighborhood restaurant. Design plans include rooftop and ground-level patios along with boulevard landscaping.

Planned opening: May 2022

A Sioux Falls lawyer and business owner is renovating a historic building in the downtown Cathedral District into a restaurant or coffee shop, complete with ground-level and rooftop patio seating, angled parking and a rebricked exterior. The owner plans to open the reimagined space by May 2022, though he's yet to announce a tenant.

Nautical Bowls

Planned opening: Spring 2022

Sioux Falls' first Nautical Bowl franchise location is set to open in the Empire Place development near the Empire Mall. Nautical Bowls is a smoothie and juice bar offering acai bowls and more. The store is set to open by early summer, owners say.

Tre Lounge

Planned opening: Timeline unknown

After closing in 2017 and being used as a Christian ministries space, the Tre Lounge bar and restaurant at 601 W. 33rd St. is planned to return as a restaurant. Owners planned to reopen the restaurant in early fall 2021 but had delays in construction. Owners did not respond to the Argus Leader for an updated timeline or progress comment.

Roots of Brasil

Planned opening: Timeline unknown

A new Brazilian restaurant, Roots of Brasil, will open soon near Eighth Street and Weber Avenue. The restaurant is owned by the former owners of Kaladi's Bistro and additional family members.

Plaza Azteca

Planned opening: Timeline unknown

National Mexican restaurant chain Plaza Azteca is planned to open near 69th Street and Louise Avenue. Menu items include empanadas, tacos, burritos, carnitas, enchiladas, fajitas and more. The national website also notes vegan tacos on the menu.
