11 young women presented to society at Debutante Ball

Eleven young women were presented at the 66th annual Gastonia Debutante Ball by Dr. Ravi Nandan Singh, The Master of Ceremonies. The 2022 Debutante Presentation and Ball were held on Dec. 29 at Gaston Country Club.

Mrs. Patrick Hoell Smith, president of the Gastonia Debutante Club, gave the welcome and introduction to the evening’s presentation. The 2022 Ball Chairman was Mrs. Zachary Scott Stroupe. The Sponsor Liaison was Mrs. Michael Lindsey Gibson.

In addition to planning and sponsoring an annual ball, the Gaston Debutante Club makes charitable contributions from its surplus funds. The club has donated more than $170,000 to worthy civic and cultural organizations in Gaston County. Mary Ellen Nelson Center, now the Webb Street School, Gaston Comprehensive Day Center, and Gaston Skills. Additional donations have been given to the Schiele Museum of Natural History, Hospice of Gastonia, the Community Foundation of Gaston Country, Gaston Literacy Council, the House of Mercy, the West Gastonia Boys and Girls Club, Holy Angeles, Heart Society of Gaston County, Backpack Weekend Food Program and Gaston County Virus Relief Fund, and Least of These Carolinas.

The 2022 debutantes, parents, sponsors, and marshals are as follows:

Kathryn Elizabeth Anthony is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William Edward Anthony Jr. She was presented by her father and sponsored by her mother, and her late grandmother, Mrs. William Edward Anthony. Her marshal was Lt. William Lee Anthony. She is attending Samford University.

Kathryn Sheila Dul is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Kevin Dul. She was presented by her father and sponsored by her mother. Her marshal was Mr. Torrey Kittrell Lay, Jr. She is attending Carolina School of Phlebotomy.

Katherine Linn Heilig is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sidney Heilig III. She was presented by her father and sponsored by her mother. Her marshal was Mr. William Blaine Rudisill Jr. She is attending North Carolina State University.

Sarah Emily Jamison is the daughter of Dr. and Dr. Phillip Ledford Jamison. She was presented by her father and sponsored by her mother. Her marshal was Mr. Charles Sidney Heilig IV. She is attending The University of South Carolina.

Kathryn Elizabeth Keel is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Griffin Keel. She was presented by her father and sponsored by her mother and her grandmother, Mrs. Henry Thomas Howe. Her marshal is Mr. George Howe Keel. She is attending East Carolina University.

Kaitlyn Scott Leazer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Bradley Leazer. She was presented by her father and sponsored by her mother. Her marshal was Mr. Kaden Michael Walker. She is attending Elon University.

Tracee Annabelle Pearson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Plato Pearson. She was presented by her father and sponsored by her mother and her grandmother, Ms. Nell Powers Alala. Her marshal was Mr. William Thomas Pattinson. She is attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Ann McKinney Russell is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter Russell Jr. She was presented by her father sponsored by her mother. Her marshal was Ryan Conley Howe. She is attending Wake Forest University.

Ella Grace Smith is the daughter of Dr. Rodney Wilson Smith and Ms. Pamela Dismukes Smith. She was presented by her father and sponsored by her mother. Her marshal was Mr. George Marshall Dismukes. She is attending North Carolina State University.

Savannah Elizabeth Smith is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Barry Smith. She was presented by her father and sponsored by her mother and her grandmother, Mrs. William Barry Smith. Her marshal is Mr. Connor Henry Smith. She is attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Olivia McKnight Sudderth is the daughter of Mr. William Walter Sudderth and Mrs. Otis James Holder II. She was presented by her stepfather, Mr. Otis James Holder II, and sponsored by her mother, and her grandmother, Mrs. Kenneth Edward Nixon Sr. Her marshal was Mr. Tanner Gus Jordi. She is attending East Carolina University.

The sponsors of the Gastonia Debutante Club entertained the 2022 debutantes at a morning coffee on December 29, 2022, at Gaston Country Club. The annual event, hosted by the Debutante Club’s sustaining members, honored this year’s 11 debutantes and their sponsors. The Sponsor Liaison, Mrs. Michael Lindsey Gibson, provided the welcome on behalf of the sponsors. Each debutante was presented a gold charm by the ball chairman, Mrs. Zachary Scott Stroupe.
