11TH REGION VOLLEYBALL: Central, Catholic set to meet again

Madison Central (26-10) and Madison Southern (11-18) are set to face familiar foes in the opening round of the 11th Region Tournament.

The Lady Indians will play host to Lexington Catholic (24-9), while the Lady Eagles take on Scott County (25-8) in Georgetown.

Both match-ups are set for 7 p.m. Monday.

Other first-round games include: Frederick Douglass at Great Crossing and Franklin County at Dunbar.

The semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday at Bryan Station High School. The championship match is set for Thursday in Lexington.

Madison Central claimed its second-straight 44th District Tournament title on Tuesday with a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-10, 25-6) win over Madison Southern. Avery Rigney had 18 kills and seven digs, while Ananiah Huguely had 11 kills.

The Lady Indians and Lexington Catholic met once during the regular season. Central picked up a hard-fought 3-1 win (25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 25-23) in Lexington.

It was the Lady Indians first win over the Lady Knights since 2017.

Rigney had 20 kills and 11 digs, Huguely had 10 kills and Emma Carter had 21 assists and 13 digs.

Catholic defeated Tates Creek earlier this week in the opening round of the 43rd District Tournament, 3-0, then fell in straight sets to Dunbar in the title game.

Lauren Moore leads the Lady Knights with 300 kills on the season. Three other players also have more than 100 kills — Addie Lowe (203), Mia Mashni (189) and Caroline Holbrook (162). Allie Kronenberg has a team-best 509 assists, while Jackie Jarosz has 502 assists.

Hannah Kaufman has 354 digs on the season for Catholic.

Rigney has 366 kills for Central, while Huguely (215), Skylar Whitaker (143) and Carter (119) also have more than 100. Carter also has a team-best 507 assists.

Journey Miserendino has 299 assists and 147 digs.

Lily Dobbins has a team-best 67 aces.

The winner of the Central-Catholic game will face either Great Crossing or Frederick Douglass.

Southern is back in the 11th Region Tournament for the 11th-straight season.

The Lady Eagles fell to Scott County, 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-19) on Sept. 20 in Berea.

Southern had just 11 kills and three aces in that match, but for 17 digs from Breanna Dawes, 11 digs from Anna Seals and eight assists and five digs from Reagan Burns.

On the season, senior Julia Bingham has a team-best 261 kills, 60 kills (59 solo) and 53 for the Lady Eagles. Burns has 340 assists. Jordyn Walker has 213 assists and 32 aces.

Dawes leads the team in digs (378) and aces (61).

Scott County has won 12-straight matches, including a 3-1 win over Douglass earlier this week in the 42nd District title game.

The Lady Cardinals have four players with more than 100 kills on the season — Emily Sue Watts (272), Grace Ginding (234), Amy McClure (159) and Hollee Hasenbaig (136).

Makenzie Peters has 772 assists, 216 digs and 49 aces.

Jayla Harris has a team-best 287 digs. Grace Wells has a team-best 62 aces.

The Southern-Scott County winner will take on either Dunbar or Franklin County.
