NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – A man was arrested early Tuesday morning in Nacogdoches County after deputies reported to have found 12 bottles of promethazine cough syrup and other drugs during a traffic stop.
According to the sheriff’s office, Devin Hamilton, 30 of Natchitoches, La., was pulled over for speeding in a construction zone around 1 a.m. near the intersection of Durst Street and S.W. Stallings Drive.
“The first indication to an NCSO deputy that something wasn’t quite right was when the driver handed over his credit card instead of his license,” officials said in a release.
Deputies were denied consent to search the car, according to officials, and a K-9 officer was called in who alerted to the scent of drugs. Officials said the following items were found when the car was searched:
A box containing 12 bottles of promethazine cough syrup
11 THC vapes
A small bag of marijuana
Eight vacuum sealed packages of marijuana
The sheriff’s office said a total of 8.4 pounds of marijuana was recovered during the stop.
Hamilton was arrested for second-degree felony possession of a controlled substance, third-degree felony possession of marijuana and a class a misdemeanor charge for possession of a dangerous drug.
