Are you looking to purchase a home in the Wilmington area? Need comparison on what you can afford?

The median home price in New Hanover County for September was $422,000, but for a single-family detached home in New Hanover County or Wilmington, it's $450,000 with the average price around $550,000, according to Tom Gale, agent with Coldwell Banker Sea Coast Advantage's Autumn Hall office.

But can you find a "great" home at that price?

"Yes, you can still find nice homes under the median home price, but they tend not to last long," Gale said. "You can even find some new construction under that price, but it's tough since land costs, material and labor have all gotten so expensive."

If you're on a budget and find a house that is in the right location and right size, but may need some renovations or repairs, this "may be a way to get the home they want and gradually update it the way they want over time," Gale said.
