Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has continued to push the boundaries with some major storylines this year, from Max Turner's extremism plot to Ryan Connor's acid attack.

The villainous antics of serial killer Stephen Reid and the messy fallout from Sarah Barlow's affair have also kept fans hooked alongside the issue-based storylines.

But what's next for Weatherfield? Here, we're recapping the biggest stories to come, all in one place.

1. Henry's return

Henry Newton is heading back to the cobbles for another guest stint, five years after his relationship with Gemma Winter ended in acrimonious circumstances. George Banks is reprising the role of Henry.

Next week's episodes see Gemma start working for Henry in a bid to improve her family's troubled financial situation. She lies that she'll be working in a different department to her ex and they won't see each other, but Chesney realises this isn't true when he spots Gemma in Henry's car.

2. Stephen and Jenny

Stephen's dynamic with Jenny is one to watch over the coming months following the recent departure of Elaine, who's taking a break from Weatherfield after discovering that the scheming villain was lying to her.

It's no secret that Stephen was never genuinely in love with Elaine, so the breakdown of their relationship paves the way for him to start focusing on Jenny again. This kicks off with Stephen meddling at the Rovers Return when Jenny confides in him about financial troubles with the business.

3. Tim follows Stephen to the canal

In scenes airing later this year, Tim continues to investigate Stephen's secrets – still frustrated that the slippery villain has managed to escape punishment for plotting against Elaine.

Paparazzi photographers recently caught Joe Duttine and Todd Boyce working on location for an episode where Stephen heads back to the canal to check whether Teddy's body is still hidden.

Tim secretly follows Stephen there, but how much he'll find out remains to be seen.

4. Cassie and Evelyn return

Evelyn's long-lost daughter Cassie only appeared for a couple of episodes when she made her Corrie debut last month, but her story is only just beginning.

Viewers saw Cassie head off with Evelyn in the hope of getting clean again following her latest drugs relapse. Claire Sweeney and Dame Maureen Lipman have both since returned to filming as the duo and will reappear in the same episode next month.

Claire recently told ITV1's Lorraine: "I'm back on August 16 on screen and I'm back in the thick of filming.

"Working with the wonderful Alan Halsall [Tyrone Dobbs]. He's so good, and Maureen, and Sally Carman [Abi Franklin] as well, I love it."

5. A face from Abi's past returns

Bad boy Dean Turnbull appeared for a stint on Corrie in 2022, in a storyline which saw him supply drugs to Abi Webster. He was last seen leaving Abi for dead after they had an altercation over a stolen car.

Dean returns to the show in an upcoming storyline, which will see him interact with both Abi and newcomer Cassie. We're sure it won't be long before he's up to his old tricks.

6. Ryan struggles with a steroid addiction

Ryan returns from his trip to Ireland soon and starts using illegal steroids in a dangerous bid to transform his body. Still feeling insecure over the change in his appearance since the acid attack, Ryan looks for validation online by posting pictures of his torso without showing his face.

Ryan Prescott, who plays Ryan, recently explained: "As soon as he gets that feeling of acceptance or glorification, whether that's through admiration or someone praising his aesthetic for his body, he's just latching onto it. Similarly to how he latches onto every relationship he's had.

"He's grasping onto something that makes him feel good just to distract himself from reality and the more he distracts himself, the more he falls into denial or delusion."

7. Todd and George fall out

Todd and George have found an easy rhythm working together at the funeral parlour, with their early teething problems now long forgotten.

Sadly, that all seems likely to change in an upcoming storyline as the work colleagues find themselves at odds again. Could rival firm RestEasy be to blame?

In a recent chat with Digital Spy at the British Soap Awards, Tony Maudsley – who plays George – teased: "George is about to have his heart broken, but not by Eileen!"

Pointing at co-star Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd, he laughed: "I'll give you one word – Judas! Say no more!

"Shuttleworth's is a bit under threat, because of a certain traitor!"

8. Paul continues to struggle

Peter Ash, who plays Paul, was recently spotted filming emotional scenes on location as the show's Motor Neurone Disease storyline continues.

Paparazzi photographers caught the moment that Paul suffers another nasty fall to the ground while taking a walk, leaving him upset.

Although show bosses haven't given a timeline for the future of Paul's storyline, they have confirmed that he'll ultimately be leaving the show as Motor Neurone Disease sadly has no cure.

Speaking in March when the story was announced, Peter commented: "I'll be sad to leave the show – it's been such an amazing job and I've met fantastic people.

"But also, I'm quite happy to be involved in such a powerful storyline that hopefully will bring awareness to MND. It's also going to be quite a progression of Paul's illness."

9. Aadi caught out?

ITV

Aadi's affair with newcomer Courtney may just be getting started, but the cast involved in the story are already teasing the drama to expect when the pair are inevitably caught out.

Impressionable Aadi has taken a big risk by succumbing to the advances of his boss's wife, which not only risks his new job but also Dev's business relationship with Darren.

Adam Hussain, who plays Aadi, recently teased: "I think Aadi is certainly aware of the consequences of the affair. He tries his best to resist the temptations of Courtney's advances, but he always falls short.

"Aadi falling for Courtney is not good, because if the fling is exposed, Dev could be financially ruined and Aadi's career prospects could be tarnished as well.

"Being with an older woman would be any other teen boy's fantasy. But again, when a connection develops over time, it makes it even harder for Aadi to call off this fling."

10. Sarah and Adam's future revealed

There's a rocky few days ahead for Sarah and Adam as recent mistakes and deception come back to haunt them again.

Although show bosses have kept the details vague, spoilers for next week's episodes have revealed that Adam uncovers more of Sarah's lies, sparking another bitter rift.

Adam steps in to support his pregnant wife when she's rushed to hospital with stomach pains, but is it too late?

11. Peter's exit

Peter Barlow waves goodbye to Weatherfield later this year, as Chris Gascoyne takes another break from the role.

Exact details of why Peter leaves the cobbles are unlikely to be revealed until nearer the time.

Corrie recently confirmed that Chris is taking an extended break, as he has done before, but with no set date for a return at the moment.

Digital Spy understands that the door will be left wide open for Peter to come back in the future.

12. Stephen is finally caught out

Don't expect it to happen anytime soon, but a comeuppance will be unleashed for resident villain Stephen in the long-term.

At the start of this year, Corrie confirmed that Stephen would continue to pose a threat to the Weatherfield residents for at least 12 months, taking us to the end of 2023 at least.

However, Iain MacLeod also recently told Loose Women: "Of course he is [going to be caught]. It's a soap, bad guys always get their comeuppance in the end, don't they?

"So yes, 100%. There's a lot of fun to be had between now and then, I will say."
