12-year-old dies after hitting his head biking at skate park, North Dakota cops say

A 12-year-old boy died following an accident at a skate park, North Dakota cops say.

Officers went to Mandan Skate Park around 5:20 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, and found the boy with serious head injuries, according to a news release.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died. Police identified the 12-year-old as Max Schaf.

His fatal injuries were believed to have been caused by a bicycle accident, police said. Foul play is not suspected.

The skate park deaths comes after Doug Larsen, a state senator from Mandan, died in a plane crash with his family Sunday in Utah.

“The Mandan community is experiencing unimaginable loss this week,” the Mandan Public School District said in a statement shared on Facebook. “We appreciate the support of our community as our students and staff navigate the days ahead. Our heartfelt condolences are with the families and friends of those impacted by the tragedies this week.”

Mandan is in central North Dakota near the upper portion of the Missouri River.
