12 people evacuated after Shippensburg fire

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Crews were on the scene of a fire that occurred in Shippensburg during the evening hours of Tuesday, Jan. 30.

According to the Shippensburg Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 5:49 p.m. for a report of a fire in the 300 block of Dwelling Court. The department stated that there were additional reports of possible entrapment, which caused additional units to be dispatched.

Crews were able to find the occupant and remove them from the smoke-filled structure. The occupant was transferred to Shippensburg Area EMS and was sent to a medical facility in Maryland via helicopter.

The fire department stated that the fire was under control at 6:27 p.m. Crews also were able to evacuate adjoining residents. A total of 12 residents and a pet were evacuated to the development’s community room. The American Red Cross assisted residents who had no immediate place of shelter. Crews cleared the scene at 10:30 p.m.

One dead after three-car crash in Franklin County

The fire department said that many of the residents should be able to return to their homes in a short period.

The fire is under investigation by the Chambersburg State Police Fire Marshal.
