Here are 12 ways Pueblo will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Great Flood of 1921

Jun. 1—The following is a listing of events, memorials, books and documentaries that will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Flood of 1921 in Pueblo.

'Mad River' book available at the Pueblo County Historical Society

The Pueblo County Historical Society, 203 W. B St., is selling the book "Mad River — Commemorating the Great Pueblo Flood of 1921."

The book is a comprehensive look at Pueblo in the early 1920s and chronicles the devastation and impact of the flood with dozens of photos from the society's archives, personal stories and new research on casualties.

El Pueblo History Museum, 301 N. Union Ave., will open its flood exhibit titled "High Water Marks: Pueblo's Resilience in the Face of Disaster" on June 4.

The exhibit will document the resilience of Pueblo in the face of the flood. The exhibit covers early flood prevention efforts in Pueblo from the 1890s through the flood itself.

The exhibit also showcases the long-lasting impact the flood had on Pueblo and its economy.

Longtime Colorado State University Pueblo professors Sam Ebersole and Justin Bregar produced an hour-long documentary that will air at 7 p.m. June 3 on Rocky Mountain PBS.

The documentary is titled "Colorado Experience: The Great Flood."

The documentary will be screened at 8:30 p.m. June 2 at the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo.

The event is free and open to the public. Food trucks will be present. The event is sponsored by the Pueblo Urban Renewal Authority.

The Rosemount Museum, 419 W. 14th St., will host a display titled "A Day in the Life ... Pueblo in the early 1920s" from June 1 to Aug. 28.

The display will feature artifacts from the early 1920s such as clothing, personal items, letters, business ledgers and more.

The museum's hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and the display will be located on the top floor of the home.

The display will be part of a full, guided tour available to guests. Prices are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors who are 60 years of age and older and $4 for anyone ages 6-18.

The Pueblo Heritage Museum, 201. W. B St, will present several opportunities to explore the history of the Flood of 1921.

The museum will host the exhibit "The Great Flood: A Panorama of Ruin," highlighting how Pueblo survived the event — specifically how businesses rebounded from the disaster in the 1920s.

The museum also plans on offering tours which will focus on what happened to buildings of residence and business after the flood, including which survived and which were lost to raging waters.

The Pueblo Water Conservancy District will host a dedication of the new levee and a memorial for the lives lost in the Flood at 3 p.m. June 3 at the new levee near the Fourth Street Bridge and new pedestrian bridge.

The event is invite only due to COVID-19 restrictions.

There will be fireworks, music and a reception to follow.

The Pueblo City-County Library District will host a virtual and in-person exhibit titled "Pueblo in the Roaring '20s: A Decade of Boom to Bust."

The exhibit focuses on the economic boom occurring as part of the decade and the devastation inflicted by the 1921 flood.

Roselawn Cemetery will dedicate an Angel Monument at 10 a.m. June 4 to commemorate those buried in a mass grave at the cemetery after three Pueblo tragedies: The 1904 Eden Train Wreck; the 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic; and the 1921 Great Flood.

A story board will be presented unveiling the findings of a tree dating the three trees that were believed to be planted to mark the mass grave.

The even is free an open to the public.

The Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center, 210 N. Santa Fe Ave., will host "Vital Waters" from June 4 to January 16, 2022.

The exhibit displays photographs from Ansel Adams, Ernest Brooks, Dorothy Kerper Monnelly, Scott Campbell, Chuck Davis, Ryuijie, Camile Lenore and Robin Robinson.

The exhibit will be in the White gallery.

In addition, The Buell Children's Museum will host an exhibit titled "The Ripple Effect" which explains where water comes from; what water provides us; what the challenges of acquiring water and its use are; and how water impacts and inspires us daily.

The Steelworks Center of the West, 215 Canal St., will host the exhibit titled "Water is Life" in honor of the 100th anniversary of the 1921 flood.

The exhibit focuses on four distinct topics: how water was used by the Colorado Fuel & Iron Co. in the steel making process; the significant role water currently plays in Pueblo; water use; and land ownership.

In addition, the Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit "H20 Today" will be on display, inviting visitors to explore the beauty and essential nature of water on Earth.

The center's hours are 10 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children.

The Center for American Values, 101 S. Main St., will host "Heroes of the Great Flood."

The center's hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and admission is free.

The Downtown Association will host the Pueblo Levee Walk from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 5 beginning at Dutch Clark Stadium, 1001 E. Abriendo Ave.

There will be two routes to walk (both over the new suspension pedestrian bridge), food trucks, muralists, actors speaking on the history of the 1921 flood goodie bags and T-shirts

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Pueblo Arts Alliances.

The event is open to the public, but tickets are required.

Tickets are $25 for passes that include the premium goodie bag as well as a T-shirt or $10 for general admission.
