The Cincinnati area could soon be home to yet another designated outdoor refreshment area – this one at the huge mixed-use development known as the Neighborhoods at Summit Park in Blue Ash.

Blue Ash City Council will hold a public hearing Thursday on plans for a so-called Dora district that would allow people to grab a drink from a local establishment and walk around with their drinks in hand.

The Dora would cover about 120 acres, including most of Summit Park and the commercial portion of the adjacent Neighborhoods at Summit Park, according to a spokeswoman for the city.

The mixed-use development on the site of the former Blue Ash Airport has been in development since 2017 with the groundbreaking for the Daventry at Summit Park luxury homes subdivision, which was the first phase of development.

Today, the development and the park are home to such establishments as Sugar 'n Spice Diner; the Brown Dog Cafe; Senate Blue Ash; Nanny Belle's and Tahona Kitchen & Bar; and Higher Gravity.

Higher Gravity opened opened last month inside the $50 million Approach apartment complex that opened in 2020.

The council is expected to vote April 14 on the proposed Dora district, which would require visitors to purchase a beverage in a cup from a local business.

The Blue Ash district would join more than a dozen Dora districts that have opened in the Cincinnati area over the past several years, including:

  • The 85-acre Dora district that opened last year at The Banks on Cincinnati's riverfront.

  • Newport on the Levee's Bridgeview Box Park, an open-air business district that operates as a Dora.

  • The Hamilton Dora, which includes the central business district, the German Village Historic District and historic Main Street Business District in Hamilton.

  • The Liberty Center Dora bounded by Liberty Way, Taylor Street, and Warehouse Row.

  • And, the Mason Dora, which spans from Dawson Street (near Wildflower Café ) to Fourth Avenue throughout Downtown Mason.
