$125,000 dedicated to Massillon's Sidewalk Replacement Program for 2022

KEY ACTION: Approved an ordinance that dedicates $125,000 to the city's 2022 Sidewalk Replacement Program, which was launched last year.

In early 2021, city officials kicked off a sidewalk and curb replacement effort that funneled $100,000 of carryover funds into the initial program. The funding is available to city residents and businesses.

The sidewalk program aims to help people wanting to repair or upgrade sidewalks and curbs in front of homes or buildings by paying a portion of their replacement cost.

Interested residents and businesses are encouraged to visit the city's website, www.massillonohio.gov to register.

OTHER ACTION: Reappointed Diane Rolland to serve as administrative assistant and clerk of council for City Council over the next two years.

Council also:

  • Gave first reading to separate proposals that aim to provide economic development grants of $2,500 each to Luvih Yoga Studio, 15 Federal Ave. NW, and The Good Way to Shop store, 104 Cherry Ave. NW, for startup costs and equipment.

  • Affirmed Mayor Kathy Catazaro-Perry's appointments of Gary Miller to the city's Historic Preservation Board, as well as Mike Knight, Dave Irwin and Miller to the Stormwater District Review and Appeals Board.

  • Passed separate resolutions to commend Megan Starrett and Linda Litman as (former) members of City Council. Starrett, a Democrat, served as the Ward 5 representative, and Litman, also a Democrat, was the Ward 6 councilwoman.
