14-year-old Michigan girl charged with allegedly stabbing grandmother to death

A Michigan teenager allegedly stabbed her grandmother to death in her bedroom, then left the house, leaving the victim to be found dead by her son.

The 14-year-old girl, who has not been publicly identified, has been charged with first- and second-degree murder in the death of Cynthia Mosby, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced Saturday night.

Mosby, 65, was found by her son, lying face down on the bedroom floor of her Canton home with multiple stab wounds on Feb. 22, according to police.

The suspect, the man’s daughter, wasn’t home when he found Mosby. Instead, police found her at a local motel, where she had checked in after the stabbing.

“The fatal stabbing of Ms. Mosby is very sad and disturbing. Ms. Mosby was a nurse who was raising her granddaughter. Our prayers go out to her son and family,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement.

The girl has not been charged as an adult, but rather adult designated, which allows a judge to sentence her as a juvenile, an adult or a blend of the two if she is convicted.
