14-year-old Ukrainian weightlifting champion in Mariupol killed by Russian World

Details: Alina Peregudova, a promising sportswoman from the Donetsk region, died as a result of the aggressors' shelling of the city of Mariupol. Alina was a pupil at the Regional Specialised Children's and Young People's Sports School for the Olympic Reserve in Weightlifting and a student at the Sergei Bubka Donetsk Region Specialised Professional Sports College. Aged just 14, Alina was one of the candidate athletes for the national team of Ukraine. In 2021 she won gold medals at the U17 National Women's Championship, and she aspired to win top-level competitions in the future. Quote: "She aspired to go on winning at the highest level. But the 'Russian World' came along and 'liberated' her from her future… Together with Alina, her mother was also killed by Russian soldiers in Mariupol.
