Mother’s Day during the time of coronavirus will be … a little different, should we say? … this year. Whether you’re gathering in person or celebrating at a distance, even a global pandemic can’t stop you from surprising Mom with a gourmet delight from a local restaurant or bakery.

Homemade macarons. Sushi platters. Char siu. Fresh pasta. Mom-osas. Local eateries are serving up a variety of options sure to please any mom, available via delivery or curbside pickup.

Get a dinner package for four from Copain Gatherings, which comes with your choice of salmon ($120) or herb-crusted ribeye ($140). Accompaniments include salad, grilled asparagus and roasted fingerling potatoes. Or, if you prefer, you can treat mom to a brunch for four with quiche, crushed potato cakes, yogurt, fruit, local honey, granola, coffee cake, grilled asparagus and orange juice. You can add a la carte options or bakery items like biscuits, cornbread, assorted muffins, cinnamon rolls and more. There’s also a “Mother’s Day Breakfast in Bed” basket, which includes DIY French toast, Cheshire bacon, Harmony Ridge eggs, Greek yogurt, strawberries and an optional mimosa kit. (4) The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar

The Cowfish is offering sushi platters in three sizes (small, $69; medium, $99; and large $129) as well as mini burger platters (small, $70; medium, $90; large, $120). The restaurant also has edamame and Thai Cucumbers to go ($10 for a side that feeds three). You can also get trays of cobb salad with grilled chicken or a mixed green salad to go. Both come with a choice of dressing and sizes and prices vary. Bottles of wine are half off, as well.

eeZ Fusion & Sushi is offering sushi platters in three sizes (small, $69; medium, $99; and large $129) as well as edamame and Thai Cucumbers ($10 for a side of each that feeds three). You can also get half-priced bottles of wine and slices of red velvet, chocolate or tuxedo cake from Queen City Pastry for $8.

Details: Orders can be placed online and a 24-hour notice is required for all catering orders. Pick up curbside daily from noon-7 p.m.

Even though you can’t enjoy the view just yet, Farenheit is still offering a gourmet family-style meal to share with mom. Each $35 meal includes the choice of one protein per person (8 oz. filet, pan-seared salmon or Chilean sea bass) and comes with salad, lobster mac and cheese, garlic mashed potatoes, roasted asparagus and New-York-style cheesecake. (7) Haberdish and Bring the Queen

The owners of Haberdish and Bring the Queen (Growlers Pourhouse and Crepe Cellar Kitchen & Pub) are debuting a collaborative menu for Mother’s Day. The meal feeds two and includes Herb de Provence rubbed pork loin, salad, roasted fingerling potatoes, roasted cauliflower and cinnamon shortcake, all for $49. Cocktail kits are available, as well.

Details: You can begin ordering May 4 for pickup between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on, May 10. If you would like to order a meal to serve a family, you can add them to the order.

(8) Hawkers Asian Street Fare

Hawkers is serving something unique for Mother’s Day — a special menu made up of recipes from the owners’ own mothers. Options include dishes like fire-roasted chicken, char siu or siu yoke. You can also order sides like green papaya and shrimp salad, Hawkers’ Delight, sichuan green beans, curry mashed potatoes or basil fried rice. Then finish the evening with dessert and drinks. Details: There’s a limited number of meals, so place your order by 9 p.m. on, May 7 by calling or by filling out the online order form. Orders can be picked up May 9 between 1-4 p.m. Reheat instructions will be provided.

(9) Halcyon and Something Classic

Halcyon and Something Classic are collaborating to provide two Mother’s Day meal options:

Carolina Picnic ($65): This meal serves two and includes a bouquet of Carolina flowers, a mimosa kit, your choice of house-crafted quiche (baby spinach, caramelized onion, applewood-smoked bacon and swiss or roasted tomato, chevre and asparagus), your choice of either walnut-banana bread or Challah French toast bread pudding, and a strawberry-blueberry salad.

Sunday Spread ($75): This meal serves two. Choose from one of three entrees (Springer Mountain Farms buttermilk fried chicken, roasted trout or peppercorn-crusted prime rib roast) and enjoy inclusions like corn salad, tomato-mozzarella salad, potato salad, deviled eggs, bacon ham biscuits and strawberry tarts.

Mac’s Speed Shop is serving up cobblers and “mom-osas” for Mother’s Day. Choose your meat (brisket, pulled pork, St. Louis ribs, beer can chicken), two sides, sauce and extras starting at $37+ to serve four. Add a “mom-osa” kit (champagne, orange juice, mom) for $15 or peach cobbler (serves 8 and comes with ice cream pint) for $25. See more details on the menu.

Treat mom to a six-course feast from Napa at Kingsley or Napa on Providence. Options include pork loin roulade, blue-crab-crusted salmon or herb-crusted roast prime rib. Pricing begins at $52 for dinner for two, but also includes options to feed four, six, or eight people. Each meal also comes with salad, citrus and chili creamed corn, sour cream and chive mash, garlic bread and butter, and chocolate cheesecake.

If you prefer to surprise mom with a homemade dinner, but doubt your cooking skills, North Italia is offering a Family Kit for $65. Each kit is composed of items from the restaurant’s pantry and only requires a little assembly. Your kit, which feeds 4-5 people, will include your choice of fresh pasta (tagliatelle, bucatini, rigatoni or strozzapreti), pasta sauce (bolognese, marinara, garlic parmesan cream or basil pesto), a large Caesar salad and parmesan garlic bread.

Rare Roots Hospitality, the company behind Dressler’s, Dogwood Southern Table & Bar, The Porter’s House and Fin & Fino is bringing you a family meal for four this Mother’s Day for $99. Choose from lobster and crab quiche or crab and lobster cakes and enjoy sides like French toast bread pudding, roasted potatoes, orzo salad and corn and butter bean succotash.

Details: Orders need to be placed by May 7 for pickup at any Rare Roots restaurant on May 9. from 2-4 p.m. Select the pickup location when you order online.

(14) Reid’s Fine Foods

To celebrate Mother’s Day, Reid’s Fine Foods is offering a special family-style take-and-bake menu. You can enjoy breakfast and brunch or dinner courses like beef tenderloin, Scottish salmon, stuffed chicken and more. Add sides, desserts, and soups a la cart, as well. Toscana is planning some Mom-inspired specials, and takeout orders will come with a complimentary bottle of prosecco. Check back on its Instagram for more details.

(17) Tupelo Honey

101 S. Tryon St., Suite 130

Tupelo Honey is offering a “Bottomless Pancake and Coffee Card” from May 4-7, so you can get mom the gift of the perfect brunch. The $50 card gets mom all-you-can-eat pancakes and coffee for free until Dec. 31, 2020, when she dines at any Tupelo Honey location. This is a dine-in only card that can be used upon the restaurant reopening (they’re targeting a mid-May to early June reopening). Options include classic sweet potato pancakes, mountain blueberry sweet potato pancakes, banana pudding sweet potato pancakes and proprietary Tupelo Honey coffee blend by Revelator (regular or decaf).

Details: This is a first-come, first-serve sign-up process that will be turned off once the restaurant reaches its limit. Sign up online to receive an email on May 4 with a link to purchase the card. Then schedule a time to pick it up at the store. The restaurant does not have enough staff to ship the cards, so they’re only available for in-store pickup. If you want multiple cards, you need to submit multiple entries on the online form.
