Heading out to your car on a cold winter morning only to find it covered in ice is no way to start the day. You're either stuck in the cold scraping or have to let the car run long enough to melt the ice, and either way, end up running late with a sore arm from all the scraping. Don't jam your shoulder trying to chip away at those pesky, rock-solid ice chunks. Instead, speed up the process with this windshield de-icer.

Voted Popular Mechanics' best spray de-icer, Prestone de-icer is made from a concentrated paint-safe formula that includes a high methanol content made to melt your ice and help prevent refreeze as you finish cleaning your windshield. You can get a two-pack for just $15 thanks to this Amazon sale.

As with any harsh chemical, you'll want to avoid contact with your eyes, skin, or mouth. I recommend wearing winter gloves to avoid touching the solution (and you'll probably need them to keep warm on an icy morning, anyway!).

As a Prestone user myself, I don't even bother trying to scrape any ice before coating my windshield with the solution. For a coating of thick ice, I find spraying one coat will do the trick, but you may need more if the ice is thick. The more patient you are, the quicker the cleaning will be. When I wait about 60 seconds, the ice transforms into a soft slush that can be quickly removed. Removing the ice is more of pushing off slush instead of difficult scraping.

As a bonus, the spray's packaging doubles as a scraper, so you can wipe all the ice off your windshield without having to dig out the ice brush that's inevitably buried in the trunk of your car. To see the spray in action, check out this TikTok video from user Ovet Reynoso.

Available in single, double, triple, and six-packs, you can be prepared for winter weather with a can in each vehicle, plus have an extra on hand for when the subzero temperatures kick in. The spray is available on Amazon, and the two-pack is on sale for $15 right now.
