It’s official: Warner Bros Discovery executives have chosen actor David Corenswet to play the next official live-action version of Superman on the big screen. The actor will join the newly-established DC Universe (DCU) franchise, which is completely replacing the so-called DC Extended Universe (DCEU) set in motion by Zack Snyder.
Set for a July 2025 release, Superman: Legacy will be the first film in the DCU lineup. Besides Corenswet playing the titular role, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) has been cast as the franchise’s Lois Lane.
Corenswet, who is turning 30 years old this year, first made appearances on shows like Elementary, Instinct, and House of Cards. He then made a big name for himself playing River on The Politician, Jack Castello on Hollywood, and The Projectionist in Pearl. He is currently attached to Twisters, a sequel to the classic 1996 disaster movie Twister, and a new musical by Ned Benson titled The Greatest Hits. Corenswet is also set to appear in the Apple TV+ series Lady in the Lake.
